Formidable Magic. Vaati has advantage on any saving throw made to maintain concentration on a spell he has cast. Any ability check made to dispel a spell Vaati has cast is made with disadvantage.

Innate Spellcasting. Vaati's innate spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 22, +14 to hit with spell attacks). Vaati can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

At will: air slash, death bolt, lightning bolt
5/day each: bestow curse, call lightning, mage armor, misty step, touch wind, wind walk
3/day each: bestow curse (cast as a 6th level spell), dead man's volley, haste, thunder, Wizzro's blast
2/day each: air removal, bestow curse (cast as an 8th level spell), prismatic wall, tornado, whirlwind

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If Vaati fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. Vaati makes two attacks.

Unarmed Strike. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 2) bludgeoning damage plus 10 (3d8) lightning damage.

Air Slash. Ranged Spell Attack: +14 to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 22 (4d10) slashing damage.

Death Bolt. Ranged Spell Attack: +14 to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 22 (4d10) necrotic damage

Lightning Bolt. Vaati conjures a 100-foot long line of lightning that is 5 feet wide. Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 8d6 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

LEGENDARY ACTIONS

Vaati can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. Vaati regains spent legendary actions at the start of his turn.

Detect. Vaati makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.
Bolt. Vaati casts air slash or death bolt with one less damage die than usual (3d10 instead of 4d10).
Wind Walk. Vaati casts wind walk on himself, expending the spell slot as normal.
Haste (Costs 2 Actions). Vaati casts haste on himself, expending the spell slot as normal.

History

Vaati comes from a fairly unknown race called the Minish. A small race of people, shorter than Cherries, however, one-day Vaati stole a magical cap known as the Mage's cap from his master Ezlo, this cap granted the wishes of whoever may down it and transformed him into a powerful sorcerer, he then cursed his old Master; Ezlo, and turned him into a living cap. He then crossed through the Minish Door to the land of Hyrule and terrorized the people there, kidnapping many maidens and taking them to his newly created palace in the sky.

Much like Ganondorf, Vaati has been sealed away in many blades, such as the four-sword. However, he has in one way or another managed to break out every time. Vaati's current location is unknown. Whether he resides in another hiding place, sealed away or is roaming around the world of Hyrule or another, managing to stay hidden and undetected, biding his time for when he can take back his power.

Combat

Vaati is very quick and agile but he can be defeated very easily if he is overwhelmed, he will usually hang back behind another creature that can take hits while he deals out damage. However, if he does drop to 0 Hitpoints he will transform into his Demon form. Vaati also prefers to stay up in the air while fighting, allowing him to stay away from most close-combat foes he may face. He will often target the weakest opponents first, ridding them and then going after the tougher enemies. When Vaati transforms into Demon Vaati he does not regain legendary resistances, and his stat block changes to that of his Demon form. He is cured of all diseases and conditions affecting him when he transforms, however.

Variant: Without Transformation[edit]

The Challenge Rating above assumes Vaati will transform into Demon Vaati when he reaches 0 hit points. If he doesn't, his Challenge Rating is 16 (20,000 XP).
