Sand Mine
Technique
Level: Sandbender 3
Casting time: 1 round
Range: Medium (100 feet + 10 feet per technician level)
Effect: 1 proximity mine made of sand
Duration: Permanent until discharged (D)
Saving Throw: see text

Technique Points Required: 5

Flattening a cubic foot of attuned sand into a 3 foot in diameter disc, you hide it under the earth or on top of it. When a weight of 1 lb. or more is put upon it, the attuned sand suddenly rubs together roughly triggering the pent up energy put into it. The result is a small explosion that deals 6d6 damage to whoever stepped on it and those standing directly nearby. Those within 10 feet may make a Reflex save for half damage but otherwise take the full damage as well. The person who stepped on the mine is blown 10 feet into the air and takes falling damage upon landing and those within 5 feet are blown back 5 feet and take 1d6-1 damage. The attuned sand then remains immobile, scattered around the area, until the user of this technique returns it to himself.

You may expend an additional 5 technique points and 1 cubic foot of attuned sand to increase the thickness of the mine. This adds an additional 3d6 to the damage as well as increasing the distance those who are blown up or back by 5 feet as well as the radius of the explosion by 5 feet.

Note: Magic traps such as sand mine are hard to detect and disable. A rogue (only) can use the Search skill to find the mine and Disable Device to thwart them. The DC in each case is 25 + the level of the technique, or 28 for sand mine.

Material Component: 1 cubic foot of Attuned Sand

Note: This spell isn't part of all Sandbender's Technique List, you can only learn this Technique if you have the Wielder of the Black Sand Class Feature.
