Pierce is a damage type. It's often called “piercing” damage.

Pierce, bash, and slash are are together sometimes called “strike damage.”

  • Stabbing and impaling forces like arrows, spears, daggers, fangs, spikes, thorns, and glass shards cause pierce damage.
  • Sources of pierce damage sometimes render a creature Gashed.
  • Sometimes, creatures with an AC of 20 or higher are Exposed to certain sources of pierce damage, such as from morningstar or firearm attacks.


Creatures

  • Creatures and objects that repel physical strikes often have resistance to strike damage, while incorporeal beings like specters are immune.
  • Skeletons are infamously vulnerable to bash damage, and they just as often resist pierce and slash damage.
  • More gelatinous oozes are often vulnerable to pierce damage, but resist bash damage.
