Commerce (Grisaire Supplement)

From D&D Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Grisaire operates a somewhat mercantilist society overall, not having fully developed a capitalist economy system. This is highly chimerical, as certain areas still use feudal systems of labor compared to more trader-forward locations. Different aspects of this huge tapestry make the whole world go round.

Currency[edit]

Money in Grisaire is more or less standard with how coinage in the base DnD works. The history, names, and symbols are different, of course. However, it is perfectly acceptable to call the coinage by their material (gold, silver, etc.) as a shortcut. There were originally several monetary mediums that differed across the nations. Following the expansion of world trade and further consolidation of international relations under alliances, a universal money system was imposed and regional currency became heavily limited, some losing value completely save as vintage collectibles. The universal/main money system is shown on the table below:

Universal Grisarian Money System
Coin (Value) Description
Lores (Platinum) Heads: Twelve thrones lining the coin circumference; Tails: Mini-world map of Grisaire
Cresces (Gold) Heads: Crossed swords and staves under a crescent moon; Tails: One of the nations within the original Crescent Alliance
Krones (Silver) Heads: A crown; Tails: Triangle with an eye
Coges (Copper) Heads: A gear; Tails: Swirl

Some local coinage is limited in use to only specific areas where they cling to antiquated currencies. They usually will not have value outside these areas. You might find collectors of currency who might be interested in and there. Below is the table with local currencies and their specified locale:

Localized Currencies
Coin (Material/Value) Description Area of Use
Li-en (Bronze/5cp) Heads: Dragon loop; Tails: Clouds Lozor
Argos (Iron/1cp) Heads: Three crossed swords; Tails: Premier Force Empire Crest Premius
Ingor (Electrum/5sp) Heads: A long-haired woman; Tails: A fruiting branch Engal, Aerzale, Premius
Agrithes (Nevermeltice/1gp) Heads: Two fish; Tails: One fish Hagai
Sa'hat (Bone/1 sp) Heads: Crossed sabers; Tails: A serpent Khaire, Kalim, Edim

D'Arby's

This franchise is operated by the illustrious D'Arbistra family in Premius. They originally held pretty much every casino in all of Premius, with their main holdings in Maqi Rex. Their main flagship, the Onus Vera, is the largest casino resort in all of the world. Due to dubious dealings surrounding their business practices, including embezzlement, employee exploitation, and poor labor treatment, they are less prolific outside Preius and pretty much reviled outside of Maqi Rex. As an attempt to diversify their influence, their holdings outside their home country tend to be restaurants rather than just gambling dens.

Other than Onus Vera, their most popular establishment is Riyal Qeda Al-Bhim, in the city of Dragea in Edim. This place is home to the largest gambling bazaar in the country, replete also with whorehouses, drug dens, and restaurant and inn. The Riyal controls a small handful of smaller restaurants in surrounding areas, with a D'Arby's even in the capital Masak. Their foods largely specialize in meat. Their trademark slogan is "D'Arby's has the meat." This is a bit of a double entendre for their involvement in the prostitution business.

Vesva

This franchise originated from a dwarven family fleeing the border between Adum and the Frigid Wastes during the Tremulous Age, following the fall of the Eldresin Empire. According to the franchise story, young Vesva was a dwarven woman who took to baking as a way to help her family settle in their new home in West Adum. Her popular goods were "dwarven bread" ("klar'duar") and a series of hearty hand-pies. These staples are still the franchise's bestsellers to this day, and they have since expanded into other major cities on the Endixian continent. Last that was heard, however, was that they never successfully entered the market of Premius.
