Necrotic is a damage type.

  • Necrotic damage drains life and withers the soul. It's derived mostly from necromancy and other vile magic, but mold and other decay can impart it as well.
  • Often, necrotic damage is the negative counterpart to the positive radiant damage.
  • This damage is associated with death, decay, and the leeching of life. It is known to cause numbness or a sense of lethargy, open sores as though caused by rot, and severe discoloration as a creature's body is broken down while it is still alive.
  • Constructs and corporeal undead sometimes resist necrotic damage. Beings of life and light, such as celestials, might be vulnerable to it.
