Lightning is a damage type.

  • Lightning damage is caused by electricity, from static shocks to literal bolts of lightning.
  • Electricity is known to cause searing pain or numbness, causing intense heat along the path it travels, and may generate bright light or loud noise. While it can be encountered in nature or in savvy mechanical creations, it is most often imparted through magic.
  • Sources of lightning damage may impart the Disarmed or Highlighted conditions.
  • Creatures widely resistant to magic or who embody lightning, such as certain elementals and dragons, have resistance to lightning damage. Rubber attire might also provide some protection.
  • Lightning damage is sometimes more effective against a creature that's Soaked or wearing metal attire, such as in the shocking grasp spell.
  • Mechanical constructs and artificial brains are often vulnerable to lightning damage.
