Knowledge (or “Intelligence”) is one of the six ability scores.

Knowledge measures how much useful information you’ve learned. Knowledge can reflect logic, memory, and the capacity to learn.

Knowledge Checks

A Knowledge check can model any task that draws primarily on something your character might have learned—whether through education, rumors, or personal experience. A Knowledge check can also model deductive reasoning or complex mental problem-solving, such as with the Deduce action. Possibilities include:

  • Athletics. Identify famous athletes and their feats.
  • Deception. Forge an official-looking document.
  • Engineering. Craft or repair an item. Identify the functional purposes of a strange device. Judge the properties of constructs, vehicles, or structures.
  • Investigation. Search for clues and make deductions based on those clues.
  • Lore. Recall information about society, people, and their history. Understand foreign languages or ancient scrolls. Appraise an item and estimate its value.
  • Medicine. Discern from a wound what caused it. Diagnose a disease based on symptoms.
  • Performance. Play a well-recited melody with a musical instrument, such as in an orchestra.
  • Secrets. Identify facts about spells, extraordinary creatures, deities, the afterlife, or other supernatural phenomenon. Identify secret signs.
  • Wilderness. Recall information about plants, animals, geology, water dynamics, and weather.
  • Unskilled. Win a game of strategy. Proficiency in the gaming set (as a tool) could apply your PB to the check result.

Will Saves

The higher modifier between your Knowledge and Charisma is added to your Will saving throws.

Knowledge Mark

Your Knowledge mark equals: 8 + PB + Knowledge modifier.

If you learn spells through study or memorization, saves made against them are made against your Knowledge mark.
