Harry Potter

Do you know who the Harry Potter expert is? I would like to ask about Azkaban and Dementors. (I would treat the Patronus as a modified familiar.)--Redrum 14:10, 23 February 2019 (MST)

Is there any info on the Knight Bus? --Redrum 14:20, 23 February 2019 (MST)

Has anyone tried to post Boggart Stats? --Redrum 14:28, 23 February 2019 (MST)

Sorry, you said "Harry Potter expert"? There isn't really a designated "Harry Potter expert"... what is your question about Azkaban and Dementors?
There appears to be no search results for Knight Bus or Boggart. Quite a Harry Potter fan, are you? Also, when signing your comments, please use two dashes and four tildes (--~~~~), which results in this... --Cosmos (talk) 15:05, 23 February 2019 (MST)
Redrum, I designate you as the Harry Potter expert, since you know at least two terms from the books (which is two more than me). Marasmusine (talk) 05:45, 25 February 2019 (MST)

Would you treat Quidditch as Aerial Combat? Is there a "sports model broom of flying?--63.142.81.74 13:12, 2 March 2019 (MST)
I don't know about Marasmusine but I would treat Quidditch as Aerial Combat. Also, I don't think there is a need for a "sports Model' Flying Broom.--Redrum 13:37, 2 March 2019 (MST)
I would treat any sport as a skill challenge. Marasmusine (talk) 10:50, 4 March 2019 (MST)

Night Fury

So I was making a Night Fury creature and there appears to be something wrong with it for some reason: unless I remove all the traits, it only displays four of them? I'm not sure what the problem is. --Dinomaster337 (talk) 28 February 2019 (MST)

tool proficiency

Is there a way to turn fishing tackle (or an expanded version) into something that requires tool proficiency? --Redrum 15:07, 9 March 2019 (MST)

That depends on how you are using it. I assume you mean for actual fishing in this case, in which you'd need a fishing rod, right? And that would require tool proficiency.
Sorry, I'm just not exactly understanding the purpose of your question here... --Cosmos (talk) 16:28, 9 March 2019 (MST)
The problem is that someone with the Survival skill would reasonably expect that to include being able to use fishing tackle. If you make it a tool kit, it means that anyone who does not have the proficiency can't go fishing. I mean, you could do that for your campaign if you want to, but it seems like an unnecessary complication. I think fishing is just one of those things its assumed most adventurers can do, like horse riding. Marasmusine (talk) 06:48, 10 March 2019 (MDT)
I was thinking about doing a background based around fishing but I guess your right about it being an unnecessary complication. --Redrum 16:58, 13 March 2019 (MDT)
I think a fisher is actually a good idea for background, think of all the stories from literature about fishers and whalers. The Old Man and the Sea, Moby Dick, etc. The background would have the vehicles (water) proficiency.
I did make a Whaler's Kit (5e Equipment) which shows you can have a specialized tool kit that goes beyond what you would expect for normal "survival" fishing. Marasmusine (talk) 08:05, 14 March 2019 (MDT)

Skill Proficiency

Would Law be an Intelligence skill or a Charisma skill?--Redrum 15:13, 9 March 2019 (MST)

Hmm, I'd say it would be an Intelligence skill, because it has to do with the knowledge of knowing how it works, and how to enforce it, how it works, etc. I don't see as much of a relation of Law with Charisma, other than possibly enforcement, but then I think that'd be through Intimidation or Persuasion. --Cosmos (talk) 16:27, 9 March 2019 (MST)
It depends on what you mean by "Law", you need to be more specific.
If you are just checking your knowledge of local laws, this could be Intelligence (History).
If you involved in a trial, it's going to be a skill challenge involving Intelligence (Investigation) - preparation and interviews - and Charisma (Pursuasion) for presenting your case and swaying a jury.
Marasmusine (talk) 06:48, 10 March 2019 (MDT)
Marasmusine, I was thinking a cross between Investigation and Persuasion.--Redrum 16:54, 13 March 2019 (MDT)

Need help with the Thri-kreen page

Hello, as of recently I've been going through and updating old races and pages for 5e, the latest one I've set my eyes on is the Thri-kreen page. I am not an administrator and I don't know the exact process for updating a page but I believe it needs a rework and I'd like to take a crack at it. There are multiple issues and flaws that I have come up with solutions to solve and all I ask is for your permission, I ask you because you were the most active member in the talk section of the page. If you want me to list all the changes I have in mind just let me know.
Sincerely, Living Natural 1
Thri-Kreen (5e Race) looks fairly stable at the moment. Perhaps you could outline what needs changing on the talk page so it can be discussed. Marasmusine (talk) 04:38, 16 March 2019 (MDT)

A bit of a mix up

Upon further inspection I see that someone created a second Thri-Kreen, the first one is fine but the second one doesn't even have a proper talk page along with plenty of flavor and trait issues, I believe someone copy pasted the link to the other Thri-Kreen talk channel. In all honesty the second page seems abandoned and I'd just remove it all together

https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Thri-kreen_(5e_Race)

Sincerely, Living natural 1

Ah yes, I see. Doesn't seem to be much point to that page, so I've redirected it.

Nonsense

This word seems to be a typical reason on delete reasons you are placing. I am not sure that it is in line with civility and etiquette. The most reason one I came across from a pseudo Thor hammer of ham, "Complete nonsense. I don't think the OP even knows what edition of D&D they are writing for." I mean if you can rationalize how someone would appreciate this critique maybe I can reconsider how I interpret this language. ~ BigShotFancyMan 08:48, 10 April 2019 (MDT)

I apologise for being harsh. Would "the mechanics do not make sense in the context of 5th edition" be better? And "It's unclear if 5th edition was the intended edition for this content"? This can be the case if the author is using terms from 3rd or 4th edition. Link me to the page so I can see. Marasmusine (talk) 09:00, 10 April 2019 (MDT)
Pulledporknir Thor's Ham (3.5e Equipment) is the page I specifically mention above. I do think that grammar is much more helpful for others in addition to not being harsh. I was really worried mentioning any thing. Thanks for making this a comfortable thing to discuss. ~ BigShotFancyMan 09:09, 10 April 2019 (MDT)

Voice of Madness 3.5 Class

Hello Marasmusine,

I was really interested in the 3.5 prestige class "Voice of Madness" you made a few years ago. Unfortunately, it has been deleted (by you?)... Is it possible to find it anywhere else?

Thanks in advance,

Hello, I've restored it to Voice of Madness (3.5e Prestige Class). I didn't make the page, but I had marked it as abandoned after no-one looked at the balance issues. Marasmusine (talk) 01:16, 12 April 2019 (MDT)
Thanks a lot!

Thank you for all your help with these items. I am new to creating items. I would like to create set bonuses on all of them, but that seems to be causing the problem you have commented on. How would you recommend re-wording them to make them more compliant? I also made changes to Sseth's Boots of Regeneration that I think may have solved the problem with it. Please review and let me know

Sune's Blessed Flail

This item was not just a "weapon of more damage". It is a part of a set. A required piece to add set bonus to other pieces. What am I missing?

Hi, I'll discuss it on your talk page. Marasmusine (talk) 11:28, 13 April 2019 (MDT)

Battle Bagpipes

Is there a way to use a masterwork musical instrument as an arcane focus? --63.142.81.74 16:31, 17 April 2019 (MDT)

If we are talking 5th edition, bards use musical instruments as a focus for bard spells. You'll need to explain "masterwork" musical instruments to me, as they are not in the core rules. Marasmusine (talk) 01:33, 18 April 2019 (MDT)
There is 5e homebrew rules for artisan's tools posted on this site. I sort of mean that. --63.142.81.74 12:53, 20 April 2019 (MDT)

Persona

I'm debating between completely fixing or making a variant to the Persona User Class, as I'd begun to error-fix it. Which should I do? This one will not include the spells, and will completely retool the class into a variety class, for campaigns revolving Persona, such as my own.

Hi there. If you want to keep the same page title, my advice is to edit the existing page, but write the class from scratch. Don't try and fix it. Just go ahead and delete everything that won't be transferred into your design. Marasmusine (talk) 15:40, 20 April 2019 (MDT)

Regarding the Dragon Knight class

First, I want to thank you, as you’re the first to give actual criticism about my class because, as of late, my group I play with is always MIA whenever we try to get together or play over the internet. But, I fear I’ve yet to fix all of the issues with the class. Mainly, the flow “sub-class”. In play testing(both arena and in a mock game) I found most leaning towards it for the regeneration. If possible I’d like to not remove it, but it may need to happen or be majorly changed. I did space out and remove some class features that felt out of place. Draconic strength (the main reason for the unbalanced stub) and Draconic Empowerment(I honestly don’t know why I thought that one was a good idea). I tried to keep most features and improvements away from levels that ability score improvements were on. I’ve also lowered the hit die to d10s and increased weapon proficiency to include only martial weapons. And I’ve expanded the starting equipment choices. But I am now at a loss as to what else needs fixing/balancing/removing, so I’m reaching out to you in hopes you are willing to lend more of a hand that you’ve already given. Also, I’ve taken what was stated on the stub to heart. I reread the PHB again and a refresher was definitely needed and I do need to consult it more often. I do hope you give me more feedback and that I’m not bothering you by thanking you and asking for assistance.--Cadezka (talk) 19:15, 30 April 2019 (MDT)

Thanks for letting me know about DragonKnight (5e Class). I will try and make time to make more feedback. I do offer a service at Fiverr if you'd like me to do a proper overhaul.
Regarding the regeneration, it really should use up some resource such as hit dice. You could have the player roll a hit die to make a regeneration pool - or otherwise limit how much regeneration is done, such as with the fighter champion's Survivor feature (although note that this is an 18th level feature!) Marasmusine (talk) 11:38, 1 May 2019 (MDT)

Hey Marusumine

So, I'm making another race. Which is lots of fun, of course. However, I'm having some second thoughts on making it a race and now thinking due to the traits the race has it should be a class instead. Tell me what you think of these traits, and here's the whole page so far in case you want to read it all in full Blade

Elemental Core. As a blade you have a few options when it comes to the elements. Fire and Acid, Cold and Force, Lightning and Poison, and Radiant and Necrotic. You have a choice of which of these you wish to be resistant to. However, you gain a vulnerability to the element paired with the one you chose. (EX: If you choose fire resistance, you'll get an acid vulnerability.) Additionally, Your elemental typing also adds onto your bonded weapon doing an extra 1d4 [Elemental Damage type]. This increases to 1d6 at 6th level, 1d8 at 12th, and at 18th it increases 1d12. You can use this feature 5 times per day and it will restore on a long rest. However, this limit can be gone past. Weapon Bound. You choose one weapon to bond to and you gain a proficiency with it, (If you didn't have one already of course) along with that you're able to summon your weapon to you at any time or sheathe it into thin air.

Blade Arts. You get one Blade Art that allows you to add onto your attack once every short or long rest, you have to call out your blade art before you know if the attack hits or not. Break, Topple, Launch, or Smash. Break and Topple can be used with only ranged weapon types and Launch and Smash is for Melee weapon types. Along with that, if a driver attempts to use a Blade art after the Blade itself already used it, the action will not work and will not provide any bonuses. All saving throw DCs for these attacks are 8 + your Strength or Dexterity (whichever score is higher) Modifier + your proficiency bonus. Break: Until your next turn, the first creature you hit will roll disadvantage on contested checks for being grappled or grappling others. In an attempt to not be affected by break, the opposing creature makes a flat Constitution saving throw. Topple: If an opponent is grappled, hitting them can knock them prone to the ground. They roll disadvantage on a Dexterity saving throw to avoid being toppled to the ground. Launch: If your opponent is prone, using launch will knock them into the air (as if hit by the levitation spell) until their next turn. The opposing creature rolls a disadvantage Wisdom saving throw to not be knocked upwards. Smash: If your opponent is either flying or inflicted with Launch hitting them will do critical damage and drop them 5 feet lower. The opposing creature makes a flat Constitution saving throw.

Overdrive. Using an action, if you wish to go further beyond your power and increase your capabilities, you may go into Overdrive Mode. This is a very dangerous condition for you. During this time any attacks you make are rolled with advantage, Saving throws that you force upon other creatures are forced to roll with a -5, any saving throw directed at to you is rolled with a -5, attack rolls against you are also rolled with advantage, and lastly your remaining Blade Arts and Elemental Core modifiers are able to be used up. At the end of Overdrive Mode you'll be forced to roll a disadvantaged Constitution Saving Throw (DC 15). If failed you gain 1d4 exhaustion points from overuse of your being. While inflicted with exhaustion as a Blade or Driver you're not able to use your Blade Arts or Elemental Core modifiers. If you haven't used up all your Elemental Core modifiers after deactivating Overdrive they will drop to zero uses if not used up during the duration of Overdrive Mode.

Return to the Core. Upon reaching 0 hit points and failing all three death saves or if a blade's driver dies, the blade's body turns into energy and recedes into their core crystal. The crystal turns a steely gray and is unable to be resonated with until 1d4 day(s) have passed. If this core is destroyed the blade will be gone forever. However, in the case of the driver dying- The blade will forget all of it's past memories and basically be reborn anew.

Please give me your thoughts on if I should make it into a class rather than a race! Thanks! --Sniffledorp (talk) 07:41, 3 May 2019 (MDT)

Yeah, if a race can't be represented in four simple traits (or three simple and one complex), then it ought to be a class instead: or you can have a core race with a racial class.
My advice is:
  • Don't give a player a vulnerability
  • I don't know how well balanced the elemental damage is until I see the other class features. Be aware of how damage progression works for classes.
  • I'm not sure what constitutes a "use" for elemental core. Is it one instance of damage resistance, or one extra damage die, or both? What do you mean that the limit can be gone past?
  • How do you summon the weapon?
  • I don't know what "if a driver attempts to use a Blade art after the Blade itself already used it," means
  • How is the blade art actually applied? Halfway through it mentions its an "action"?
  • "Until your next turn" - the start of it, or the end of it?
  • In what way does a creature "attempt" to avoid being affected, is this an active measure? Or does this mean the target simply makes the saving throw when you use this feature?
  • In what way is it a "flat" saving throw? Is that different to a regular saving throw?
  • You don't "roll disadvantage", you make a saving throw with disadvantage. Why is the topple's dexterity saving throw made with disadvantage?
  • "Toppled to the ground" isn't defined. Do you mean knocked prone?
  • You don't "hit" things with the levitate spell. A creature is affected by the spell if they fail a constitution saving throw ("hit" is specifically for attack rolls). Again, why the disadvantage? Is the duration of the launch 10 minutes, like the spell? Do you need to concentrate on it?

What potions is Genie breast milk good for? --63.142.81.74 17:00, 15 May 2019 (MDT)

Hello, you keep asking me questions that are entirely up to your DM as they are not part of any D&D rulebook. You need to check with your DM. Marasmusine (talk) 02:08, 16 May 2019 (MDT)
I already checked with my DM. He is still trying to figure out a good (or great) answer to this question. --63.142.81.74 13:17, 1 June 2019 (MDT)
I'm a bit concerned about why the players in your campaign decided to acquire breast milk if they have no idea what purpose it could serve. Best I can say is that if female genies do lactate, this is only a vestigial effect, as genies are created when "the soul of a sentient living creature melds with the primordial matter of an elemental plane"[1], so they would have no young to nuture. Different types of genie have different elemental associations, so I would guess that drinking it would have some elemental effect (like, maybe marid breast milk would grant you water breathing). Marasmusine (talk) 13:40, 1 June 2019 (MDT)
I guess most of the milk comes from half-genies. All I know is that there is genie breast milk available on the market. --63.142.81.74 14:38, 1 June 2019 (MDT)

Dullahan Stuff

I want to directly apologize for what happened recently. Just because the discussion surrounding Varkarrus' desire to leave is important to me doesn't mean it's important to everyone, and it was a mortifying display on my part. I realize you were trying to be helpful, and applying your experience as you thought was best. I do, as I said, fully support your version of the race, but I can't do that at the expense of someone else's, especially given the circumstances. Once the current page was deleted, and Varkarrus' rights to continue independently elsewhere secured, I would be very happy to help with your version in any way you would allow. --Max7238 (talk) 14:41, 1 June 2019 (MDT)

Balancing

I’ve seen that my Simiosaurus race has been given the needs balance template and have been making adjustments to make it more balanced for a first level party. The major fixes I’ve done is removing the subraces, as with them the race had a total of 13 traits and looking it over it really doesn’t need the bonuses, but I’m not sure what else to change, primarily because I don’t know how either Musicus or Marasmusine's Meters work, and I don’t want to remove the template because I’m positive there is something that hasn’t jumped out at me -Dinomaster337 (talk) 7 June 2019 (MDT)

Possible Plagiarized/Copyrighted Content

Hi there! I'm a Wiki noob, so unfortunately my various attempts to add the Needs Admin template to the page [https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Clockwork_Amulet_(5e_Equipment) have been in vain, but I wanted to let somebody in authority know that I'm pretty sure that item's copied directly from Xanathar's Guide to Everything, which to my knowledge is not covered by OGL. My evidence for this is having recently purchased XGE on Roll20, and perusing the built-in compendium there the Clockwork Amulet is present with the exact same text as the page in question. Not having a physical copy, I can't provide a page number for reference, but when I found the amulet listed up here I thought someone ought to know.--2405:8100:8000:5CA1:0:0:56A:C2D 18:21, 18 July 2019 (MDT)

Thanks for the heads up. I've dealt with the issue and you are in fact correct. —ConcealedLightChatmod.png (talk) 01:20, 19 July 2019 (MDT)
Hi CL, you need to delete the page entirely so that the text can't be displayed if someone looks at the history (and recreate the protected page if you wish). We should also check the page's OP's other contributions. Marasmusine (talk) 07:26, 19 July 2019 (MDT)
I changed the vision of the edits. First time attempting a sysop of that nature so I hope I've executed that properly. If I have failed, could someone let me know what I did wrong, and the right way to have done it?   ~BigShotFancyMan   talk   07:41, 19 July 2019 (MDT)
Ah, of course, my mistake. Thanks for covering me BSFM. —ConcealedLightChatmod.png (talk) 12:17, 19 July 2019 (MDT)
Hey there guys, same editor who let you know about this last time. I took the liberty of looking at the author's other contributions. The https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Orb_of_Time_(5e_Equipment) is also XGE, and the https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Book_of_Exalted_Deeds_(5e_Equipment) he posted was a watered down version that came from the DMG. The BoED has already been rendered a stub redirecting to the DMG, but the edit history is still accessible and earlier revisions are visible. --192.42.116.25 15:21, 19 July 2019 (MDT)

You Don't Have To Be Rude!

I'm sorry, POOR REHASH!? Is it at all possible that I either never used the Entertainer or that I didn't realize that I was accidentally copying the trait down?! I'm sorry, but you need to be careful with your words before you seriously insult someone!! Also, if it's THAT BIG OF A DEAL, tell me how to fix it! Don't just insult my work and do nothing about it! Flamestarter (talk) 06:38, 18 September 2019 (MDT)Flamestarter

When I make criticism, it is always on the work and not the person. It is not my intent to insult you. Rehash means "reuse (old ideas or material) without significant change or improvement", and in my opinion that is what it was. My advice for making a background is to first read through the backgrounds in the Player's Handbook, and the "creating a background" in the Dungeon Master's Guide.
If you could remind me exactly what page we are talking about if I get time I will try to give you some constructive feedback. Marasmusine (talk) 06:48, 18 September 2019 (MDT)
I believe that Flamestarter is referring to the rapper background. Based Quincy (talk) 08:30, 18 September 2019 (MDT)
You know what, constructive criticism would be nice, but gentle stuff. And rehash was not my problem, poor was my problem. Flamestarter (talk) 07:35, 19 September 2019 (MDT)Flamestarter
After taking another look I'm afraid I don't really have any suggestions, since you can choose the Entertainer background if you want your character to be a rapper (or any other type of singing or music). If you must keep it, you should develop the actual description, for example how does this 20th-century art form manifest itself in a medieval fantasy setting? You need to remove the variant feature, as backgrounds shouldn't have this kind of strong mechanical bonus. I don't know what to do about Popular, you can't just copy the Entertainer's popular demand feature as it's not in the SRD. Ideally it should be something quite different. Marasmusine (talk) 07:56, 19 September 2019 (MDT)
So your advice, destroy it. Thanks a lot. Flamestarter (talk) 15:27, 19 September 2019 (MDT)Flamestarter
That's not what I said. Marasmusine (talk) 17:06, 19 September 2019 (MDT)
I would like to propose a thought problem. How do laser pistols get into a "medieval" setting? Or rifles or grenades? Those aren't answered. And yet their all in the DM Guide. Alternatively, I agree that making some specifications may help, but the main idea of DnD is the player takes care of their own character's backstories, such as how they got their background. Just as the DM makes his own reasons to have modern-day/sci-fi technology in a similar fashion. I offer you to change my background any way you see fit, keeping in mind that most of these answers should come from the player. Finally, I apologize for losing my ever-loving mind earlier in this post. I have no excuse. Flamestarter (talk) 19:56, 19 September 2019 (MDT)Flamestarter
I think it makes sense for that player to use the Entertainer background as that background is broad enough to encompass a modern rap star. — Geodude Chatmod.png (talk | contribs | email)‎‎ . . 22:53, 19 September 2019 (MDT)
Firstly, there's a reason why those items are in the DMG and not the PHB. They are there to support Dungeon Master's write adventures that have the trope of an item "fallen through time", or campaigns that border on the renaissance. If you are saying that PCs with the rapper background have actually travelled from 20th-century Earth, then there are a lot more character development questions to ask.
Secondly, I'm trying to help you develop the description. For example, how do half-orc rappers differ from elf rappers? What kind of rap culture and themes do different fantasy races have? What kind of music do they rap to? This might help distinguish it from the Entertainer.
I also think that the personality tables need some work too. For example, good bonds should suggest people, places or items that tie the PC to the game world. Marasmusine (talk) 04:48, 20 September 2019 (MDT)
Alright, I'll delete it. Um, how do you delete it? Flamestarter (talk) 06:29, 20 September 2019 (MDT)Flamestarter
Use the {{delete}} template.   ~BigShotFancyMan   talk   12:25, 20 September 2019 (MDT)

Need Help Figuring Out What To Do

Hey there Marasmusine, I was wondering on whether you could shed some insight on what to do with the Vice of Lust (4e Blackguard Variant) page. I ask because I think that the page should be moved to 4e Blackguard Powers and all the powers on the page separated onto their own pages, as I believe the blackguard is an official class so the page should be like the 4e Paladin Powers page, but my knowledge of how the wiki organizes 4e content is very shoddy in general. Thanks again.--Blobby383b (talk) 19:46, 18 September 2019 (MDT)

It wouldn't be a Powers page. Blackguard is a type of paladin, so it can choose powers from a specific blackguard or the general paladin powers. I'll tell you how to handle it shortly. Marasmusine (talk) 08:01, 19 September 2019 (MDT)
Okay, I think that if you do something like I did at Living Spell (4e Elite Character), where the powers are on their own pages, but transcluded into the parent page. Marasmusine (talk) 08:31, 19 September 2019 (MDT)
Alright, I have create separate page for the powers and transcluded them onto the Vice of Lust page. With that done, does the page itself need to be moved to have a different identifier and/or name?--Blobby383b (talk) 10:51, 19 September 2019 (MDT)
I think the page ID is okay. The D&D Essentials-style class system came in a the end of 4th edition's life and we never invested much time into putting in infrastructure for it. There isn't really a proper home for such variants. I added the "class" category so that it won't appear in the power list. Marasmusine (talk) 11:59, 19 September 2019 (MDT)
Yeah it seems like the wiki is lacking the infrastructure currently to organize pages like these, I guess I will just add that to the 4e to do list. Either way, thank you for helping me figure this out.--Blobby383b (talk) 12:22, 19 September 2019 (MDT)

Aberrant Crypt Thing

I love the idea behind the Crypt Thing, but I wish it was in a 5e format so that I could use it as a boss villain in one of my games. Would it be too much trouble to ask you to translate the 4e format to 5e? Flamestarter (talk) 17:13, 1 November 2019 (MDT)Flamestarter

Do you have an idea of the target CR? Marasmusine (talk) 01:59, 28 November 2019 (MST)
Maybe raise the AC by 2 and make the CR at least an 8. At least, that's what I think. Flamestarter (talk) 07:55, 29 November 2019 (MST)Flamestarter
Sorry for the delay, I've also been working on paid commisions. The work in progress is at Crypt Thing, Aberrant.
When do you need it for? I'll be more focused if I have a deadline. Marasmusine (talk) 02:19, 6 December 2019 (MST)
I want to use it in my current DnD game, as sort of a boss baddie. But in order to prepare my adventurers, I need some stats that I can help them either counter or make an easier threat instead of killing them all immediately. Flamestarter (talk) 02:43, 6 December 2019 (MST)Flamestarter

Mechmaster (5e class)

Hi Marasmusine

I was just if you had any knowledge on whether or not the creator of this class has abandoned it or not, and if by chance they have done so, can I take ownership of it to try and fix/improve it.

5e addiction

Are there 5e rules for addiction? 209.97.84.186 08:54, 29 February 2020 (MST)

5e has a heavy emphasis on DM adjudication. There are no "official" rules, beyond the DM simply assigning a DC for a saving throw and determining the effects of a success or failure. Marasmusine (talk) 11:21, 1 March 2020 (MST)

Dullahan, 2nd Variant (5e Race)

Hello again Mara! This Dullahan race has a {{WIP}} and a dpl is set to check for WIPs older than 3 months. If you have more guidance on handling WIPs I am interested but in the past I've seen and done a check in with a common user if they're still working on it or for anon or less common users I'll mark abandoned. So advice on if there is a better way to handle or what you'd like done with this. I moved mine to userpages, which is something I might do for others instead of abandoning it too. any how, back to "cleaning". Red Leg Leo (talk) 07:48, 3 March 2020 (MST)

Oh, that's my race. What is there to do? Two class features. I'll see if I can complete it. Marasmusine (talk) 17:49, 3 March 2020 (MST)
Only two class features? May be the easiest WIP to finish :-) Red Leg Leo (talk) 07:31, 4 March 2020 (MST)

Regarding the Sentient Weapon Class

Hello, as you've said it, the magic weapon and magic resistance are not to be treated as features, the changes I've made on the class moved said features 1 or 2 levels, with the most difference between the original and the change being a difference of 3 levels, for the first magic resistance feature. Considering them as features, for comparison, magic resistance is granted very later on, the same bonus is granted at 1st level of fighter(2nd for Paladins and Rangers I believe). Not treating them as features, I could argue that the class is lacking more features, since is not a spellcasting class, and have lots of levels that they gain nothing. We can still compare with the Monk class and their unnarmed attacks, that is are not granted this kind of bonus. I've added my views on the class talk page in more detail.

Yes, the class is missing features, it isn't finished yet (someone not me changed the "stub" message to "review"). Levels 13, 17, and 18 need features. I think my original intention was to present the page as a framework for this kind of nonhumanoid class but over time people added subclasses and so on before the core class was finished.Marasmusine (talk) 03:24, 17 March 2020 (MDT)

If you get a chance, can you look over my homebrew class to see if it is balanced and the terminology is proper now? https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Luchador_(5e_Class)

Upsetting Article

Hello Marasmusine,

I am writing you concerning the following article: https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Lizardfolk_Biology_(Paludia_Supplement)

It was brought to my attention after one of my fellow players was looking for information regarding her race in DnD, she had stumbled onto this article believing it to be the official class. We’ve all made this mistake at least once, we’re not concerned with her not recognizing this wiki’s purpose. Instead we (her entire DnD group) were appalled with the content of this page. This race is written with an inherent sexist bias that is unrealistic and harmful. It isn’t super clear on your Warning Policy page if this sort of speech is accepted.

Here are a few of the upsetting ideals written into this race:

“Hence, the lizardfolk have inferior endurance, especially the females, who have even more serious problems metabolizing lactic acid. In a long fight, a lizardfolk will tire faster than a human and will probably retreat if the fight isn't won in a couple of minutes.”

“An average male requires an average of 8 hours of sleep, while a female requires an average of 10 hours of sleep, although many females prefer to sleep for 12 hours.”

"Without exception, within the same species, male lizardfolk are larger, heavier, stronger, faster, more durable, more resistant to pain, fatigue and sickness, and less easily tired than female lizardfolk. Additionally, male lizardfolk have higher average intelligence and are wiser than female lizardfolk. This is due to the need for the males to do the hunting and fighting for the tribe. Additionally, male lizardfolk naturally live longer than females, but the habits of war and violence tend to equalize their lifespans with the females. In no case does a female lizardfolk ever control a tribe, clan, or village; the purpose of the female lizardfolk consorts is to make heirs, not to rule. If a chief were to die and a daughter or wife was his only relative, then the strongest males would fight to see which one of them was the strongest, and the winner would become the new chief.

It should be obvious that male lizardfolk are excellent front line soldiers. With more strength and constitution than an average human, they ought to make great fighters. At home, they are excellent hunters and fishers, and can apply their hunting skills to aid whatever party of adventurers they may join. The males can also make skilled rangers.

Female lizardfolk are often unable to take care of themselves, as they aren't very good at competing with males for hunting or fishing grounds; the very few that have ever tried have been outclassed in every way. As a result, they have to find a mate or else depend on male relatives. In isolation, a female lizardfolk actually would be able to do some hunting or fishing, but even the least competition from a male will be enough to see her outdone. Female lizardfolk are more flexible than their male counterparts, but not nearly so much so that they would get any bonus to dexterity because of it.

For game purposes, to get the stats of a female lizardfolk, first calculate the stats normally for the male, and then factor in the following:

-4 strength, -4 constitution, -2 intelligence, -2 wisdom. Female lizardfolk also only have +2 natural armor instead of the male +5 natural armor (in common lizardfolk, but in no case do females have more than, or as much natural armor as the males, no matter the species.) Females can only hold their breath for only three times its constitution score before drowning (instead of 4X for the male.) Females by necessity, are supposed to lay eggs and raise children, thus ensuring the continued survival of the race. Biologically, this necessitates certain physiological adjustments that may impede the females from combat, but in no way reduce their value to the race; in fact, their value actually increases in some ways because they can lay eggs. Lizardfolk females are acutely aware of this, and very few females will live their lives without reproducing.

In comparison to a human, a typical female lizardfolk has -2 strength, constitution, wisdom, and -4 intelligence (minimum of 3). In an adventuring party, this can prove to be quite a problem. Being neither good at combat nor skilled in magic, the female lizardfolk would at first glance appear to be a liability for any party. However, this weakness can be turned into a strength... of a sort. Having little combat proficiency frees the female lizardfolk PCs from having to develop such skills, enabling them to class as bards and rogues and develop other skills. With little need to give them fighting skills, one can develop a female character's non-combat skills, and use them to the party's advantage. Female Paludian lizardfolk bards receive a +2 charisma bonus upon entering that class and lose it when leaving it. This reflects the exotic, eye-catching nature of the females; this is only able to be exploited by a class which requires the female to be looked at and paid attention to. For a female fighter or paladin, appearance and grace matter less, and the rest of the world knows it, so only the bard would logically receive a bonus for being eye-catching in a performance. Skills for the female lizardfolk that are worth focusing on include Balance, Diplomacy, Disguise, Escape Artist, Gather information, Move Silently,Open Lock, Perform, and Sleight of hand. Chances are, one can easily fit an exotic, alluring female lizardfolk into a party, especially if one's party needs someone agile and charismatic (while there is no particular bonus for dexterity, it ought to be focused on in order to make the PC worthwhile.) These can be good PCs because they can excel in certain niche roles that a party might need from time to time, such as having to send someone to balance on a narrow plank in order to get an item, or having to sneak through a dark room.

During the prime mating season (spring, roughly 1/4 of the year), females receive a special +4 modifier to certain charisma checks to represent the release of pheromones and their greater desire to mate (though females always wish to mate more than the males do, but even more so during mating season), but it wears off after the season ends. In the wider world, female lizardfolk are considered to be rare, exotic and eye-catching, whereas the ferocious males simply intimidate and frighten others. Hence, the outside observer can see a dichotomy between the two roles of the lizardfolk sexes; male strength vs female exoticness.

There is one native Paludian class which allows female lizardfolk to circumvent some of their disadvantages, that of the Hierodule, a divine casting class with no offensive capability. The education required for this class enables the females to avoid the -2 intelligence and -2 wisdom penalty, and this will apply only for the female if her first class is that of Heirodule. For no other class does the training for being a Heirodule apply, so if the female should switch classes, the penalties to intelligence and wisdom apply."

“Like all other species of lizardfolk, the males are much heavier, larger, stronger, and more durable in every way than the females, who only weigh between 90-120 pounds (on average), are at least a foot shorter, are nowhere near as strong, and have softer skin, weaker bones, and less resistance to pain, fatigue, and injury. The females also have a lesser capacity for logic and reason, being creatures of hormones, feelings, and passions. The common lizardfolk are the most numerous type of in Paludia, forming a plurality of the entire lizardfolk population in Paludia.”

I understand the desire to create races that mimic animals and cultures but no animal puts this strong of a disadvantage on all females. This article appears to be written with a ridiculous amount of harmful language and ideals towards females. It explicitly states that women of this race are useless for all things other than mating, it frequently uses the problematic work “exotic” and only gives women any use if they are used as a sex object as a bard and any advantage they get from that goes away if they leave the party. I’m not sure if the class started this way or was added later. Regardless, it seems inappropriate to have an article like this for a game that should be about inclusion and acceptance.

I am posting this for all of the moderators so the article can be reviewed. I understand if this isn’t found to be against your community guidelines but please do consider the harm this type of article might impose on someone who might be quick to make parallels with human females or young females who might believe this about themselves.

Unfortunately misogyny isn't against the guidelines, and this is pretty mild compared to some other pages. Falcon Punch (3.5e Feat) is a feat that explicity allows you to force an abortion on a target, and this is "funny".
However, I also think that writers should be able to explore gender disparity in non-human species, such as gnolls and ferengi. Marasmusine (talk) 13:20, 20 December 2020 (MST)
While there is no explicit guideline against misogyny, racism, and so on, I felt it went against the behavioral policy and general guideline of "make sure everyone feels welcome." I agree that writers should be able to explore gender differences, but I think you can agree that the implementation in this case was problematic at best. — Geodude Chatmod.png (talk | contribs | email)‎‎ . . 14:50, 20 December 2020 (MST)
