Is it possible for there to be a glass cannonball that is filled with Alchemist's fire, Sneezing Powder, or a liquid that turns into Tear Gas? --209.97.85.48 13:07, 28 October 2017 (MDT)

Sure. Why not. Marasmusine (talk) 12:00, 29 October 2017 (MDT)

Sharpshooter (5e Archetype)

Do you still have the info for the Sharpshooter 5e archetype you deleted on October 18, 2017? I'm using it for a character of mine and had the page screenshotted on my iphone which has since been destroyed, I hadn't written the info down anywhere else. Any help would be much appreciated! Here's the link: https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Sharpshooter_(5e_Archetype)

Please email me back at: <REDACTED>

Yep, it's on its way to you. Marasmusine (talk) 13:16, 1 November 2017 (MDT)

Formatting Question

Hi! I wanted to ask you something about tables. See, I want to make a table where the title of a column is divided into two lines. Suppose I have a table which looks like this:

Example 1 Example Example Example 2
1 A AAA
2 B BBB
3 C CCC

Now, what I'm wondering is, how can I make the title of the second column appear as

Example

Example

Instead of Example Example? Quincy (talk) 09:47, 4 November 2017 (MDT)

To make it appear that way, you would add a br/ where you want the next line to appear. The table would be changed to the following to make the title appear on the second column.
Example 1 Example
Example
Example 2
1 A AAA
2 B BBB
3 C CCC
I hope that answers your question.--Blobby383b (talk) 10:19, 4 November 2017 (MDT)
Yes it does! Thanks, dude! Quincy (talk) 10:23, 4 November 2017 (MDT)

I was using arcane warrior

Hi i was using your arcane warrior homebrew for my campaign and you abruptly deleted it. im not asking you to put it back up or anything, but maybe you could email it to me at REDACTED i would really appreciate it.

If you noticed that the page was about to be deleted, why didn't you object to the deletion or make a copy for yourself? — Geodude671 (talk | contribs | email)‎ . . 23:35, 8 November 2017 (MST)
It wasn't abrupt. It's had balance warnings on and off since August 2015, and a deletion proposal since October 21st. I'll email you the raw text though. Marasmusine (talk) 01:55, 9 November 2017 (MST)
The Arcane Warrior (5e Class), has since been re-uploaded with no templates.--Blobby383b (talk) 12:52, 9 November 2017 (MST)
The class has now been deleted. And the name protected. Please don't re-upload this class without at least trying to address the issues it had. --SgtLion (talk) 13:13, 9 November 2017 (MST)

3.5e homebrew pimp class deleted?!?

Hey man. Any way I can get a copy of my old homebrew class that you deleted??? That has brought my group some fun over the years and I want a copy for nostalgia's sake.

Never mind... Found it on way back machine... just as an FYI I also never received any warning that this pup was getting put down.

It had a deletion proposal message on it for nearly a month before it was deleted. Marasmusine (talk) 15:22, 10 November 2017 (MST)

Diplomat Homebrew Deletion

The page for the diplomat 5e homebrew class was deleted. However I was running a character based on this class and more or less need it for leveling and progression. I don't ask that you put the page back, you state quite clearly the problems with it. What I do ask, is there a way that I can get access to the information on the page? My DM is the one who wrote the information on the page, so any issues we may run into as I run the class, he can edit and fix himself as we progress. While it would've made sense for him to save a backup of the information, unfortunately he did not and this is where we are. So can I somehow get access to the information on that page?

Legality of External Images?

Hello, Mara. I've seen that you encourage a lot of images to be transcluded from other websites instead of hosted locally, and I am curious as to if this is actually less illegal than uploading the image here. While the source image isn't stored here and requires the other website to be operational, surely the data and image must still be copied in some manner to be shown here. Is this an arbitrary distinction, or is there a legal basis for why it's legal?

I ask this because, if it's no less illegal than storing the images locally, I believe we should stop encouraging people to link images externally. External images cannot be resized and will disappear of the link goes down. And aside from the legal implications, I have to wonder the moral implications that appear to underlie copyright: if the artist doesn't want the image to be copied i.e. redistributed, why should we encourage people to do it against the will of the artist just because it's technically legal?

I'm not trying to challenge you or anything here, just trying to understand the rational behind external images, as it's been bugging me for awhile.--GamerAim Chatmod.png (talk) 11:41, 16 November 2017 (MST)

As far as I know, its the same as an image search engine showing their results. The main differences are that our results are choosen by users (totally fine) but with our images we do not always include a link to the source page (the gray area). Since we are asking for source links, I think its fine how its intended to work right now. --Green Dragon (talk) 11:51, 16 November 2017 (MST)
But are search engines legitimate? And if someone doesn't want their image redistributed, is it really right to do it anyway?--GamerAim Chatmod.png (talk) 11:53, 16 November 2017 (MST)
I think if they don't want their intellectual property distributed it is their responsibility to put a disclaimer on their work. My wife has imagery on the internet and I know that's how it works for her stuff. If there is nothing attached, then beings it is on the world wide web, it is subject to distribution. BigShotFancyMan (talk) 12:12, 16 November 2017 (MST)
Your argument has no legal basis. I can't go pirate a video game just because it's on Steam. Under copyright, the author holds the full rights to — you guessed it — copying the work. Just because you can copy it to your heart's content doesn't mean it's legal. Copyright is assumed by default nowadays, and has been for quite a few decades. They're under no legal obligation to explicitly state that you can't copy it.--GamerAim Chatmod.png (talk) 12:50, 16 November 2017 (MST)
Copying is not necessarily distribution. The same goes for image-based links, url links, and source-based activities. Its a messy gray area, where following norms seems like a good method to use. Major image search engines, Google Images, Bing, etc, display good quality images without directing users to the website. They, however, provide a link to the source too. We are trying to imitate this format, but also distributing the images through this process. We do not store any data about the images of course (they are totally external). --Green Dragon (talk) 12:57, 16 November 2017 (MST)
Not sure your point Gamer. Not concerned with creators copying their own work. I see where copyright has been assumed for decades and they don't have to state you can't copy it. And sorry for saying distribution, copying was the word I meant. Yes it too would be an incorrect statement. What I am learning here is, there's a big difference between legal word and practical workings.
yeah copyright is default but just because it is doesn't mean your going to get your way when someone copies your work, unless you got the money to spend. "no legal basis", seemed I was posting in line with the rest of the comments: no paragraphs and subparagraphs included with subsection of that section. My basis we've dealt with copyright issues, and it isn't exactly black and white as the text. Get all technical you like but Green Dragon uses the word "gray area" which is certainly appropriate. BigShotFancyMan (talk) 13:59, 16 November 2017 (MST)
On the topic of the encouraged use of external images. I'd like to make a step in the next direction and ask the question: When will we be able to scale external images? I've noticed recently that GamerAim has been going around removing images due to them not meeting a page to image ratio but as images are an amazing tool to provoke and inspire thought and creativity I believe it would be better to implement such a site feature instead. To take Green Dragon's example, implementing this in a similar way that Google Images does and setting a maximum % width an image can take up on a page so curators don't have to spend time curating another aspect of pages would add some security to it as well. ConcealedLight (talk) 18:38, 16 November 2017 (MST)
The formatting limitations are there because MediaWiki does not have a good work-around now. I would not remove images because of their size, since this all has to do with MediaWiki. Hopefully there will be a working method sometime soon. If anyone knows of an appropriate extension that would be great information. --Green Dragon (talk) 10:15, 17 November 2017 (MST)

When I originally reviewed the image use policy here, I investigated the legality of transcluding images, and the best legal advice I could find stated that it was a "gray area". As far as I'm concerned, our usage policy for external images is that the image should be hosted on the artist or copyright holder's official page (and not an image farm or forum or whatever), or (and this is where it maybe gets dodgy) the hosting page has the image under fair use (this is typical for wikis) - and we should provide a link and attribution.

If the image is too large, you should seek to ask the artist's permission to copy a lower resolution version. I have had success doing this at deviantArt and Flickr. Marasmusine (talk) 02:18, 17 November 2017 (MST)

If GD says it's fine, then I won't argue it, but thanks for replying. I plan to remove over-sized images in the future as I see them, and will leave it to the page authors to request a smaller copy :) --GamerAim Chatmod.png (talk) 06:40, 17 November 2017 (MST)

Paste the line above, and replace "Image-link-goes-here" and "Caption-text-goes-here" as needed. As you can tell from the discussion in the section just above this one, you should provide credit to the source of the image (assuming you didn't create it yourself). - Guy (talk) 14:15, 16 November 2017 (MST)

Deletion of Child of Apollo Class

One of the classes I made called the Child of Apollo was recently deleted. I understand why and I'm not asking that it be brought back. I'd simply like to know if there is a way I could gain access to the information on the page. The class was one of a group of Demigod classes I had created specifically for a homebrew campaign I have with my friends. The classes are not meant for a regular game but rather I was using this website as a place to store information. If I can't have the classes on here that is fine but I'd at least like to have access to what I created. Is there any way that can happen?

(I recognize there was probably a notice on the page for a while but I don't use this website regularly and therefore did not see it. I apologize for any inconvenience I may be causing, I just really don't want to have to spend hours creating the class again.)

(Edit) If you could email it to me at <redacted> I'd really appreciate it. (Angelwings1232 (talk) 20:12, 22 November 2017 (MST)
As Marasmusine appears to be busy, I've emailed you the latest revision of the delete class. Let me know if I can do anything else. --SgtLion (talk) 04:17, 23 November 2017 (MST)

Deletions on Author Request

Yo yo, Mara. I noticed recently quite a number of your deletions under "Speedy Deletion Criterion G7", namely because an author requests it. To be honest, I've not looked at said articles in detail, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't wrong in believing our policy is to generally not delete articles solely based on author request? I realise, especially if the articles in point aren't worth keeping anyway, that we have plenty discretion to delete the proposed articles on other grounds anyway. I just wanted to ensure I'm not thinking wrong, on this matter. Wasn't that what ye olde big schism was all about: the admission that D&D Wiki has right to keep said articles around, even against an author's protest? --SgtLion (talk) 01:55, 20 November 2017 (MST)

I personally would not be opposed to deleting pages on the creator's request, as long as they were the only person to add anything of substance to the article (eg other users doing things like fixing grammar or formatting wouldn't count), but if this were decided against I wouldn't leave the wiki over it; I'd just be slightly disappointed. — Geodude671 (talk | contribs | email)‎ . . 10:08, 20 November 2017 (MST)
I believe that if people upload decent content to the wiki, they do so knowing full well what they're doing. D&D Wiki isn't just a temporary cloud storage solution, and people shouldn't be able to decide that they're done sharing. Even if just one person worked on the page, they contributed to the community, and I don't believe they have the right to rescind their contributions. I believe we have a responsibility to build and maintain our homebrew community, not tear it down on the whim of one person. If they didn't want it to be maintained and shared into perpetuity, they could have hosted it elsewhere.--GamerAim Chatmod.png (talk) 10:41, 20 November 2017 (MST)

To be clear, I inherited G7 from wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#G7._Author_requests_deletion - and as far as I remember, I've only used it when it's absolutely uncontroversial. For example, if a user creates a page then immediately blanks it or requests its removal. We need to give some leeway if the user initially misunderstood the license for example. As soon as anyone else adds to the page, or the page has been around for a while, it shouldn't qualify for speedy deletion.

I must also apologize for my lack of presence recently. For whatever reason, I am having trouble loading pages on the wiki, taking many minutes sometimes, and I don't have the patience when I've got half a dozen other projects to work on. My apologies for the halt in the Doom campaign (which requires me to have many wiki pages up at once!) I have not abandoned this wiki, but for the time being it might be better if you email me with any questions. Marasmusine (talk) 15:35, 26 November 2017 (MST)

That makes sense, and I agree with that position - thanks for clarifying. The server does seem to lag and fall over a bit recently, so I understand the absence, hopefully we can be up 'n running happily again shortly. Let me know if I can do something to help. --SgtLion (talk)
New hardware was installed a short time ago, so this should be a step in the right direction. There are more plans, which they have been tested today. They will be implemented in the near future. --Green Dragon (talk) 09:17, 27 November 2017 (MST)

Arcane Warrior deleted

One player of my group plays an Arcane Warrior from https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Arcane_Warrior_(5e_Class) that is actually deleted. The problem is that my player has to level up soon and there is no access to information about his class. I understand that the class was not balanced, but I personally don't care enough to force my player to change his class. I want to know if it is possible to have access to the Arcane Warrior class (maybe you can send it to me by e-mail: <redacted>). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.80.57.208 (talkcontribs) . Great Saber Tooth

Hello, I've taken the time to edit the race and put a racial class (rough draft) into the Great saber tooth (5e_Race). I looked through the discussion on the race and you mentioned this as a suggested edit. I plan on doing more to it once I have some more free time. Would just like a second opinion on this "Class" set up.

User:Dinomaster337 is the creator of this race (I think). I want to keep it as closely to what he envisioned without making it over powered.

Kuo-Toa changes

I believe I have successfully balanced and re-worded the homebrew Kuo-toa PC race to more accurately reflect the Kuo-toa in the MM, and the general wording conventions of 5th edition races.

deleted my feat

Hey I saw you deleted my feat. I know it still needed work but it was easier to have it here for reference and occasional editing. it was the "consuming rage" feat. a heads up would have been nice. though I guess it happened in September so it's been a while. at least thanks for your suggestion. might make it an archetype like you said.

Boon of Invulnerability

I've came to answer you question about this boon even though i am not the creator of that boon. my answer is this: There are Beginner Homebrew DMs that make their player's character more powerful then they realize. but for my case i make them powerful then make them face of against powerful home made monsters and character bosses. i agree on the fact this should not be given to a regular player character. But for DMs like me who uses boons to make character bosses se this as a good boon for hard bosses.

I'm not convinced that you actually know how epic boons are used. Marasmusine (talk) 15:04, 13 January 2018 (MST)

Resizing External Images

I thought I'd just let y'know, as this seems to be an issue I've seen you mention a number of times - I have discovered a way to resize external images, I've edited the Common.css, which now allows you to put any image in <div class="externalimage-holder" style="width:50%;"></div> tags, and even external images will be resized. The key here being that Common.css now applies different CSS rules to <imgs> inside class="externalimage-holder" elements. Whooo~ --SgtLion (talk) 01:33, 17 January 2018 (MST)

Dragon Mage

Hey,

would you help me out with Dragon Mage?

https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Dragon_Mage_(5e_Class)

- how to include Necrotic/Radiant as elements and/or others - how to manage max elements controlled - perhaps adding more elements as level progresses - Dragon Mage Table is inconsistent with the information below (ie, Elemental Stomach doesn't exist anywhere) - starting AC, scaly skin and thicker scales. - Dragon Wings and Draconic Presence: is it possible to get them a little earlier; Draconic Presence DC 9+Prof+Int ? - Dragon's Mind - how about dividing AC bonus and move speed -> Scales & Wings? - Draconic Healing - healing comes too late for too little effect. IF Radiant/Necrotic elements added wouldn't this power be redundant? - I want the class more Dragon Mage and less XElement Bender from Avatar.

I'd appreciate any input you could provide. Thanks!
