Devil Fruits (5e Variant Rule)
Devil Fruits[edit]
Basics[edit]
Devil Fruits are rare, powerful fruits that give the eater features based on what fruit it is. New features are granted based on your total level across all classes. If your total number of levels is reduced below a threshold, then you lose the ability use the features granted by these fruit until your total levels once again reach the required threshold.
Discovering[edit]
These fruits are found across the world, in shops and in trees or on the ground, but to make it cheap the player must be intentionally or unintentionally trying to find one, the DC can vary on the type as shown below, their are also more routes to take to get it as you could use the Identify Spell if you think one near but another faster but pricey alternatives to help you find one is go to a master navigator and buy a unique compass worth 1,000 GP to point you in a 3-mile radius of one, while having the compass in hand the compass makes you vigilant but only to devil fruit, while vigilant you have advantage on perception checks, a +3 to perception check for finding a devil fruit and the DC rating drops by 1, upon finding a devil fruit the compass breaks when over load by the fruits power.
d4 | Perception check to find a DF |
---|---|
1 | Paramecia, DC 20 |
2 | Zoan, DC 25 |
3 | Logia, DC 30 |
4 | Mythical, DC 35 |
Consuming[edit]
In order to first gain the features you must consume the fruit. For example: This must be done in one sitting, and in under 1 hour or the fruit will not do anything. You must also pass a DC 15 Constitution check to not throw up, if you fail you do not get any features and you can try in the next 20 minutes or you will immediately throw up again. If the hour limit has passed the fruit will rot away into salt water and be reborn somewhere else in the world.
Sunk Cost[edit]
Anyone under the effects of a devil fruit may not swim unless specifically pointed out by the fruits' description. This is manifested in a net negative buoyancy, and a swim speed of 0 feet. This means that while in water you will slowly start to sink. If a creature attempts to pull you from the water they must pass a DC 15 Athletics check. Any creature doing so also has their swim speed halved while pulling you. If several creatures attempt to pull you they make an athletics check at advantage gaining a +1 for each member pulling you.
Negating Fruit Features[edit]
A special metal called seastone is required to negate any effects of a devil fruit user. simply just touching seastone turns a devil fruit user into a paralyzed mess. Seastone is an alloy made from having cold iron forged at the lowest depths of the ocean allowing the sea waters pressure to metaphorically sink into the cold iron. the only other way to negate or stop a devil fruit users abilities is to always keep some seawater on you not any water will it has to be from the sea, river water nor lake water will work only water from the sea and you must refresh the water every 3 days or it will lose its connection to the deep.
Fruit Types[edit]
There are six types of Devil Fruit: Paramecia, Logia and Zoan, then Mythical Paramecia (there are no cannon Mythical Paramecia, you can homebrew this), Mythical Logia and Mythical Zoan
Paramecia fruits are the weakest; they do not grant any extra bonuses, other than their fruit powers. Logia fruits, as well as their fruit powers, also grant immunity to non-magical piercing, slashing and bludgeoning damage, as well as immunity to the type of damage the fruit inflicts (e.g. fire, cold, poison), Zoan fruits grant the power to turn into another creature, which, while in that form, grants a huge buff to all their fruit powers and finally Mythical types are the strongest over all, being even stronger than a non-mythical fruit but still retaining the same abilities as the normal types of fruits.
Model[edit]
A model is a Zoan based rule, based around the main name of the devil fruit, the main name is a devil fruit within itself but their can always be a variant version to it, an example about this is the dog fruit, model: golden retriever, when making a cannon or homebrew devil fruit, always consider if you should add a "model" to it, if you have completely forgot that's okay, it is preferred to add a "model" if you can but it is not a need.
Awakening Zoan Devil Fruits[edit]
When awakening, you must roll a DC 18 constitution saving throw, on a fail, the user loses it sense of self and is just a creature forever staying in the zoans form, if you die in the zoans form you do not revert to your body but instead stay in your form, on a success, you keep you sense of self. Only Greater Restoration or something higher then this can revert the users form and regain their humanity and remain awakened beast or not.
Artificial Devil Fruits[edit]
Given that devils fruit are hard to find some people like doflamingo and/or Kaido (Depending where you are at in One Piece) have created a factory called "The Smile Factory" the smile factory makes artificial Devil fruit and can be bought more cheaper than a real devil fruit and can be told by real or artificial by seeing if it is an apple and it has polka dotted circles all over the fruit, all smiles only are able to have Zoan type devil fruits because Kaido wanted that, artificial fruits are different consuming than real devil fruits, if you attempted to eat the artificial devil fruit roll a 1d10 on a 10 you gain the abilities and attributes of the devil fruit but if you roll a 9 or bellow you lose your ability to swim and you can never feel anger or sadness ever again unless you and effected by Greater Restoration and still you will be never able to swim again, in addition you can use the devils powers whether you fail or not.
