Born a low-class Saiyan barely twice as powerful as a human, the young Saiyan named Kakarot's father Bardock was suspicious of Frieza's order for all Saiyans to return to Planet Vegeta. Kakarot was only just able to escape orbit before the planet below him was vaporized. Landing on Earth through his father's programming, he suffered a major head injury, losing any memory of being a saiyan, and was raised by an elderly martial artist who gave him his new name, Son Goku. Years after his adoptive father's death, which unbeknownst to him had happened as a result of his Oozaru rage, Bulma, a girl trying to collect the Dragon Balls, came across the boy, who asked him to join her after a display of his inhuman strength. After a fight with a desert bandit, a bear, a lesson from an ancient master, a run-in with the Rabbit Mob, and a rampage across Emperor Pilaf's great castle, Goku decided he enjoyed the adventuring life. Rather than return to his grandpa's tiny shack in the mountains or to West City with his friends, he traveled to Kame House, where he trained along with the master and his new partner for the upcoming 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. |
