Depending on the edition of D&D you want to make a variant rule for, you might want to look at 5e Rules, 4e Rules, 3.5e Rules, 2.5e Rules, Pathfinder Rules, or D20 Modern Rules.
You can put a link to your userpage and talk page by putting "~~~~" at the end of your message. Hi. What about 10th level spells[edit]

Hi i wanted to make a godlike being able of casting spells even more powerfull than Wish but when i made the spell there were one of those "this spell is unbalanced." and "please correct the spell level to one of the following 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9.". From what page should the spell be listed at? {{5e Spell}} makes the spells available from the spell lists. If there is a 10th level spell, there is no list for it. Where do you want people to find the spell? --Green Dragon (talk) 06:58, 31 March 2021 (MDT)

Can i get to make a preload[edit]

There's no need to bring it up with the super-admin every time. Heres a preload I made for you to copy and use for any 10th level or higher spells, and heres the template that you probably shouldn't mess around with, but I'm sure you can figure it out if you need to change anything.--Ref3rence (talk) 09:58, 31 March 2021 (MDT)

Undeletable Category[edit]

Hi GD, I was wondering if there was any back-end trickery you or BD could do to get rid of the page Category:Legion Michael. It was supposed to have been deleted over a month ago, but I and the other admins have been unable to remove it because it is pending change propogation. Unable to log in.[edit]

blockage[edit]

I have a (stupid) question. Is it possible to block all posts from a particular computer? The computer I'm on is a (communal) computer and an idiot posted something that got the IP address blocked. Redrum

Yes it is possible to block all homebrew edits as no matter what user or anon is editing from that computer, they all have the same IP. Because of this, and the fact that we block anons by their IP, if say several people were to post on the wiki from the same device and one gets banned, no one would be able to edit from that computer because of the shared IP address. This situation may cause some issues to appear like if an IP is banned and a user appeals the ban saying they don't know why they are banned or they didn't make an edit done by an anonymous user, admins have no way of confirming their statements because of the shared IP address.--Blobby383b (talk) 13:13, 29 May 2021 (MDT)

Fatal Error[edit]

Hi GD, I and several other users are getting "Fatal exception of type 'Error'" messages when we try to view any homebrew classes. I used Special:RandomInCategory to find about 10 random pages and got that error every time. your wiki has been an important place in my life, i have spent a lot of time here and tried to join several times. my experiences have not always been pleasant but i keep coming back because it is the most welcoming place i know on the internet, even though some treat it as an exclusive club. i am hesitant to put my work here because of past experiences here (and its very confusing) but i want people to enjoy my work still. im not entirely sure where im going with this. im not a people person if you will, rather a recluse, i havent opened up to a person in years and im out of practice interacting with people. i was wondering if you could do a favor for me ,as a friend if youd like to think of it that way, could you look at my work? if you like it you can put it here on the wiki

Class Design Conflict[edit]

Hello! I’m currently in the middle of a discussion with another user in relation to the design of the Fire Bender class. You can see the entire discussion in the discussion tab of the class. We have gone back and forth, discussing why we think this design is better than that design, and so on. It’s come down to the point where this user believes that the class must have a subclass, no exceptions, whereas I believe that a subclass-like mechanic can be made, where the player chooses a subelement for their character, and based on the chosen subelement, they gain a particular expansion to the list of Basic/Advanced techniques that includes spells relating to that subelement. At this point, it seems to be a difference of opinion on how the class should be designed. I suggested that a class variant be made where the variant has subclasses, as this user prefers, but they say that this isn’t enough to justify a class variant.

I’m writing here to ask for some sort of guidance on this issue. I know that, if I choose to ignore this user and delete the “missing features” banners, they will simply keep adding them back. I can’t bring myself to agree with their design philosophy, and they can’t agree with mine. I don’t know how to handle this situation. Is there a way for you to intervene in some way? Can a class variant actually be made so that we both have a version of the class that we can accept? Am I actually in the wrong, and need to yield to this users wishes? Vandal[edit]

Hi GD, you might have noticed that there's a persistent vandal who seems to have it out for me specifically. If not, look here for an example of his handiwork. He appears to be using a VPN in order to evade the many IP and account blocks we've issued. While I am not an admin, web designer, nor cyber-security expert, I figured I'd put in my two cents, as this particular flavor of vandalism makes enjoying this hobby difficult. The only way I see blocking this kind of thing would be to block all IP edits, and while IP editors are an important piece of this site's culture, I feel it may be time. The best way I can see a way to handle this kind of thing is as follows:
  • User submits account creation application (effectively what we already have, potentially with a section requesting the user's intent?). Application can be submitted 1/week/IP.
  • New lowest tier of adminship has the ability to sort through applications, and accepting an application automatically puts the Welcome Message spiel in their name. Not only would this cut down on similar cases of vandalism, but other users who might make an account with an unacceptable username.
  • An "account officiator", or whatever you might name this, who accepts a few too many vandals, whether through malice or negligence, has their privileges revoked for the sake of the wiki.
As I said, I'm no expert, and I'm not sure I could be much help actually setting up such a system, I'm just tired of the same unfunny joke mucking up my watchlist day after day, and I hope this helps.--Ref3rence (talk) 19:48, 26 September 2021 (MDT)
Blocking all IP edits sounds a bit ham-handed. It is rare but there are some helpful IPs. It also sort of goes contrary to how even vandal IPs are handled in general by Wikipedia standards (no permablocking unless for certain offences, eg.). The recent vandalism is only done by a handful of vandals, maybe only 1-3. If we could disable VPNs maybe this would be smooth, though a persistent person can certainly bypass VPN blocks.
As for the increased bureaucracy, this echoes Archive Of Our Own invitations. It might be manageable since we don't receive a ton of new users all the time like they do (and their wait time is like 28 days).--Yanied (talk) 13:48, 2 October 2021 (MDT)

In light of the vandalism, is there any chance that a (semi)formal Code of Conduit page listing what behavior is expected and the (semi)standard punishment could be posted (even if it is just for MY info)? Archivist Background Quality Nomination[edit]

I have noticed that Archivist (5e Background) has been nominated for being listed as a quality article over two years ago and currnetly has unanimous support, fitting the criteria for selection but it still has nor become an official quality article, is this intentional or just an oversight? Edit: I have noticed that a lot of nominations for quality and featured articles have gone on past the 6 month expiration date without being accepted or rejected. I voted in support of The archivist article and I went through the quality article nominees and found that Courtesan (5e Background), Diplomat (5e Background), and Monster_Hunter_(5e_Background) all have unanimous support of at least 3 users, Falconer_(5e_Background) has 3 supports and 1 oppose, Firefighter (5e Background) has 2 supports and your neutral vote, Naruto:_Shinobi_(5e_Class) has 6 supports and 2 opposes, while the rest either fall short of the 3 supports minimum or have no votes at all. I am not aware of a 6-month timeframe for QA nominees. However, I do think that many nominees just sit around for the longest time before someone ends the nomination.

A Final Word From Me[edit]

Hi GD, this is long overdue but it's better late than never. I would like to formally resign from my administrator position. I also feel like I must confess that I have been using a proxy and multiple sockpuppets to vandalize this wiki, including by making numerous personal attacks against different users and spam pages. There is no possible excuse that can justify my actions, so I will give none. Honestly, I am feeling nothing but guilt and shame for the fact that I ever accepted an administrator position in the first place. I am severely mentally ill, in my tenure I have caused more harm than good and I am not at all psychologically fit to be the "face" of the wiki. That is all, thank you and have a good day. Herregor 3.5e[edit]

Hey there,

I've a question about the above listed page. I noticed it's primed for deletion on the first of 2022 and i was wondering if you could postpone that for a while? I discovered the setting on here yeeeeaars ago, and I've been fiddling with it in my spare time ever since. I'm actually working on an entirely new gaming system to try really fill the hole in D&D that the settings firearm use doesn't mesh with. But, as with everybody, these past two years have been hectic and I haven't been able to work on my side project as much. It was foolish of me to never bother making an account on here but I lacked the confidence back in the day. If you could forgo deleting the associated pages I promise to start posting as best I can some of the ideas I've had in order to flesh out the setting. If not well, eh at least I tried. I'll take screen Rips of everything just in case. On a second note though, I've noticed that over the years many sections of the page have already been deleted due to lack of polish. Is there any small chance those pages are languishing in an archive somewhere? Or even better do you Know of any way I could get in contact with the original author? User page vandalism[edit]

As you've no doubt noticed, certain individuals are causing trouble by moving other individual's user pages to new page titles, many of which are quite flagrant violations of wiki policy. Here is a particularly egregious example. Would it be possible to instate a block on all user's ability to move user pages, perhaps with the exception of pages within their own namespace? I can't think of any legitimate reason that a user would need to move someone else's page, so it seems best to nip this in the bud before it happens yet again. --Nuke The Earth (talk) 19:08, 22 January 2022 (MST)

The main issue with this vandalism seems to be the move subpages function which normal users have access to. Vote Stuffing[edit]

Hey GD, today a user created a large number of alternate accounts in order to give multiple ratings to a page they created, Way of One Strike (5e Subclass). The alts have all been blocked, and the user warned, but the votes remain. Creating a new type of reward?[edit]

Hello! I have flown up to the lair of a green dragon to ask how to create a Reward page. This is probably a stupid question, but I have a cool idea for a new reward. How do I make a page for it that shows up in the Other Rewards section?

Those links are all static links, so you will have to create your page and then edit Other Rewards and add a link like the other links on that page. As soon as you have created your page, I can help you make sure that your categories are correct. Just link to the page here when it's made. A question[edit]

hello im new here and i accidentaly got banned for editing, i didnt know theres a limit or it was perminent so i apologise..how do we post our own version of a race or creature to be considered for the page without upsetting the people out there and the admins i just want to contribute so have no problem following rules i just dont know the exact rules for everything —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jonger (talkcontribs) . I understand wanting to contribute, but the only thing you seem to be contributing is buffs to pages that really don't need to be stronger, which is why you recieved a week long block after a previous one day block. Even if it would be more accurate or appropriate for larger numbers, we try to reign things in as much as possible here, and that generally means conforming to the system's standards as much as possible. Feel free to contribute anything else to the wiki, but this isn't exactly the right avenue. As for making your own version, pages that are just "an existing page but better" are promptly put up for deletion or speedy deletion, for the same reasons similar edits on those pages would be undone. I don't want to be rude about it, but this is how things work here. --SwankyPants (talk) 13:16, 9 April 2022 (MDT)
Adding on to what Swanky said, if you think a page needs to be stronger, you should justify the buff either in the edit summary, or ideally on the talk page. Be advised that pages should generally be on a power level comparable to first-party content. You can make a wererabbit easily in 3.5e using the SRD:Lycanthrope template. Yes, you can use a jackalope as a familiar just ask your DM and you may want to use an appropriately similar familiar creature stat block. --Green Dragon (talk) 12:56, 25 April 2022 (MDT)

Needsbalance reasons[edit]

Hi GD, can you please try to give more detailed reasons when applying maintenance templates, especially with {{needsbalance}}? A Discord user was concerned about the needsbalance you placed on Natural Weapon Master (5e Feat) being rather nondescriptive, and I agree. Just saying "this needs nerf" without describing why it needs to be nerfed is not very helpful to the OP, especially on such facially innocuous content as Natural Weapon Master.
