Spirit Points. Steely Dan has 14 spirit points which he can expend. All spirit points are regained at the end of a long rest.

Discernment. When Steely Dan is targeted by an area effect that lets him make an Intelligence or Wisdom saving throw to take only half damage, he instead takes no damage if he succeeds on the saving throw, and only half damage if he fails the save.

Denting Blows. If Steely Dan is grappling a creature or being grappled by a creature, his and Lovers's attacks automatically hit the creature and deal an additional 5 damage. Steely Dan may still make an attack roll to determine if he scores a critical hit. This feature extends to creatures who are too large to be grappled as long as he climbs on to them. Additionally, Steely Dan may make an unarmed strike as a bonus action, or two unarmed strikes for 1 spirit point.

Long Travels. Steely Dan has advantage on saving throws against gaining exhaustion from sources that are not creatures. When Steely Dan completes a short rest, he regains twice as many hit points and loses 1 level of exhaustion. Furthermore, as a bonus action for 1 spirit point, Steely Dan may take the dash action and disengage action.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. Steely Dan or Lovers makes two attacks with their unarmed strike or dagger.

Unarmed Strike. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 bludgeoning damage.

Dagger. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) piercing damage.

Summon Stand. As a bonus action, Lovers appears anywhere within 5 feet of Steely Dan or is unsummoned.

A natural born Stand user, Steely Dan is a career criminal, typically using his Stand to extort people using some perceived "karma". Due to his Stand power, as well as the strength of his soul as a sinner, he was sought out by DIO, who paid him to kill Jotaro Kujo, Joseph Joestar, Noriaki Kakyoin, and Jean Pierre Polnareff, as well as to get rid of defectors with any worthwhile information on his group. Intercepting them in Karachi, he used DIO's flesh buds to execute Enya, whom the crusaders had planned on interrogating, before moving his Stand into Joseph's brain. While he menaced Jotaro, Polnareff and Kakyoin shrunk their Stands to deal with Lovers, eventually driving the Stand out while Joseph cleansed the flesh buds from his head. He then attempted to invade Jotaro's brain as a backup plan, but was quickly caught and given the biggest beatdown of any of DIO's minions.

Lovers[edit]

Tiny elemental (Stand), neutral good

Manifestation of Will. Lovers acts on Steely Dan's turn and uses his actions, bonus actions, and reactions. Whenever Lovers takes damage, Steely Dan instead takes half as much damage. Any feature that effects Steely Dan also effects Lovers. Any effects that target Lovers affect Steely Dan instead, though any attack rolls or saving throws made as part of the effect are still made against Lovers. If both Steely Dan and Lovers are targeted by an effect, only Lovers is targeted. Lovers can only move up to 25 ft. of Steely Dan, and moves in parallel with Steely Dan when he moves beyond the 30 ft. radius.

Invisible Force. Only Stand users and creatures with any form of spellcasting can see Lovers, otherwise it is invisible. A creature that can not see Stands can attempt a DC 25 Wisdom saving throw after being damaged by a Stand. On a success, it can sense Lovers, and it is no longer invisible to them. Lovers can phase through creatures and objects, and Steely Dan share Lovers's senses.

Exploit Weakness. On a hit with Lovers's unarmed strikes, Steely Dan may spend 1 spirit point to decrease the target's AC to a maximum penalty of -5 until the end of the target's next long rest. If a creature is affected by this feature by multiple creatures, this maximum is equal to the highest proficiency bonus among the creatures affecting them.

The weakest Stand is also the most terrifying of them all! Lovers can only attack Tiny targets.

ACTIONS

Unarmed Strike. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d4 + 7) bludgeoning damage.

Invade (1 Spirit Point). While a creature that is not a construct or elemental is within 5 feet of Lovers, it may force them to make a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, Loves enters their brain and does not move in relation to you, even if it leaves a 30 ft. radius of you. Every 2 hours it is inside their brain, they gain 1 level of exhaustion. Only other creatures inside the target's brain, such as a Stand that becomes Tiny using Stand Shrinking, may target Lovers. When Steely Dan takes damage, the creature whose brain Lovers is inside takes twice as much damage, and they gain any conditions he does. Additionally, Lovers gains the following actions:

Gray Matter Clone (1 Spirit Point). Lovers creates an identical clone out of gray matter. These clones are mechanically identical to Lovers save for having 5 hit points and being unable to leave the target's brain.
Lord DIO never trusts anyone (1 Spirit Point). Lovers disguises itself using gray matter to appear as any creature Steely Dan has seen. A creature must succeed a DC 20 Perception check when they take the Search action to differentiate Lovers from the disguise.

Variant: Flesh Bud-Wielding

While on DIO's payroll, he carried around a small number of his employer's flesh buds, inserting them into his victims for control or removing them for a quick execution.

Plant Flesh Bud. The creature whose brain Lovers is inside is charmed by DIO until the flesh bud is removed. A creature attempting to remove the flesh bud must spend an action to attempt a DC 14 Dexterity or Strength saving throw, followed by a DC 14 Acrobatics or Athletics skill check. If they fail the saving throw, the creature with the flesh bud inside them dies instantly. If they fail the skill check, they become subject to this feature's effects. A removed flesh bud is mechanically identical to DIO, but has 15 hit points and no spirit points, is Tiny, and can only move and use its action to reinject itself into another creature in the same manner as using this action without the spirit point cost.
