Gunpowder (4e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Gunpowder[edit]
Gunpowder is an explosive substance, it is a mixture of sulfur, charcoal and potassium nitrate, that burns rapidly, producing volumes of hot solids and gases which can be used as a propellant in firearms and as a pyrotechnic composition in fireworks, as well as other explosive devices.
Proportions by weight are 75% potassium nitrate, 15% softwood charcoal, and 10% sulfur.
Gunpowder that comes into contact with water looses its explosive quality thus any wet gunpowder becomes useless
When using Gunpowder to launch a projectile the average standard is 2/3rd the weight of the projectile should be Gunpowder used to launch that projectile. For instance, a 42lb Cannon ball would use about 28lbs of gunpowder.
0.07lb of gunpowder is needed to fire an 0.2lb inch wide pellet from a gun.
Gunpowder can come in a number of ways The Average Cost is about 1sp for every 0.06lbs(0.058ish) of gunpowder [usually container is included in this cost of 1sp per 0.06lbs]Thus Making the Average Cost-Per-Pound: about 17sp per pound(16.7ish).
Container | Cost | Weight |
---|---|---|
Horn (30) | 35sp(3.5gp) | 2lb |
Keg (240) | 250sp(25gp) | 20lb(15lb gunpowder) |
Super Keg(1428) | 1700sp(170gp) | 120lb (100lb of gunpowder) |
Paper Wrapping: a small paper casing with gunpowder in it and a pellet at the end, you bite off the paper with the pellet, keeping the pellet in your mouth, then use the gunpowder, finally putting the pellet into the barrel and using the paper to clean the barrel. Theirs about 12cp of gunpowder just enough for a single shot, along with a gun pellet that costs about 3sp, because of wrapping and everything it comes out to about 40sp or 4gp to sell to a consumer each. This is the best way to carry the ammunition and the DM might cut down some of the time of your weapon loading when using it (however thats up to them).
Paper Wrapping(1/1) 40sp(4gp) 0.276lb (0.076lb gunpowder approx, 1pellet)
