From D&D Wiki

Various kinds of different substances exist that aren't just the usual healing potion or poison. To cover everything would be unrealistic so here are some notable examples of well-known substances in Grisaire, as well as some small usage rules inspired by Xanathar's Guide to Everything.

Examples[edit]

Pathogue
Rarity:

Developed by mad scientist Surgisle of Äschon, modern day Aerzale, pathogue is a topical anti-irritant derived from vestigial zantin cells taken from zanthani. It is used to reduce inflammation of rashes on the skin. If mixed with water and certain citruses, it was discovered to act like a mild penicillin to treat certain minor illnesses.

Clar du Gol
Rarity: Very Rare (50gp/lq. oz.)

Clar du Gol is a very special substance used similar to lacquer for wooden furniture. It also has applications for cleaning and protecting gemstones and the luster of pearls. Clar du Gol appears as a colorless and odorless liquid, much like water. However, it is much more viscous. It is also extremely toxic to most humanoids, as it reacts with the digestive tract to make an often fatal blockage that spreads and impedes on pulmonary function. As such, Clar du Gol is extremely dangerous in the hands of assassins. It was originally developed by merchants in Kalim and has an arduous production process, leading to its very limited quantity.

Clar du Gol Game Statistics: To be used as poison, a creature must ingest at least 1 vial (4 lq. oz.) of Clar du Gol. Creatures that drink it do not notice any effects for as long as 1 minute, after which they take three levels of exhaustion. These levels of exhaustion cannot be removed by resting. At the start of each of the creature's turns after, they take another level of exhaustion. At the end of each of their turns, they can make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw. On a successful save, they do not take an additional level of exhaustion. Clar du Gol's effects do not end until either the affected creature dies with the 6th level of exhaustion or a proper Clar du Gol antidote is administered.

In- Class Substances

These substances encompass a class of cosmetics applied to change the hue of the skin. Some are rather normal, much like how we might use cleanser or bronzor. Others are more unique and might be a bit magical. They vary in rarity based on locale, usually being found in more high-class shops due to their superfluous nature. They are all identified by the "In" at the start of their names. These are not their original names, however, as they all have various origins. However, they were standardized under this naming system by the overarching cosmetic branch of international marketing.

  • Incarrilon: This red paste is quite common and originates from lower regions of Endix. There are historical records detailing its use as blush mimicry as well as lipstick and even food coloring in countries like Khaire and the Kharim Caliphate. Incarrilon was often used in place of beetroot when beets were in shortage. It was made using the infantile instars of red beetles. Methods of mass production have created an industry that employs an entire village in Kalim. It is then shipped across all of Grisaire. The local name for it in the Lunan dialect is "Ehjit."
  • Inberril: This brown cream is used like a bronzer, deepening the hue of a skin tone by several shades. It has the property of also working on scales.
  • Inerrint: This black cream is popular, though uncommon. It is produced using charcoal from the volcano Emirit in the Doru Islands and is famous for being an excellent cleanser. Applied to the skin, it is said to remove impurities overnight so one wakes up with rejuvenated complexions.
Sesmesmy
Rarity:

This infamous concoction is known for its hallucinogenic properties that can also interfere with mental facilities, like memory.

Oripol
Rarity:

Oripol is the eponymous product of Oripol Company in Premius, a household product maker. This substance is often used to remove grease and also comes in industrial grade for use on machinery. If you need a point of reference, think of Dawn soap.

Auswasser
Rarity:

Literally translated to "out-water," this is a powerful purgative in many ways.
