The great wolf-tiger of Howling Wolf Mountain, Roen is a chakra-eating monster similar in size and power to a Tailed Beast, though it hunts humanity on pure instinct. However, when the Sage of Six Paths' teachings spread, the beast was sealed in a shrine high atop the mountains it claimed as its territory. Some tellings of the story even have the sage himself or his son Asura doing the sealing, but the truth has been lost to time, instead being tended to by the Kodon clan, who most believe to be the true first sealers. However, hundreds of years later, when the Land of Medicine considered converting Howling Wolf Village into a raw production village thanks to the Kumanoi clan's blue fire powder, with which they could create explosives more powerful than even a jonin's Fire Style, the Kodon clan's then-leader, Tenma, unsealed the beast and used his genjutsu to simulate a mock invasion of a power technology alone couldn't solve. However, when the blue fire powder caused his genjutsu to fail, Roen was able to rampage and feast once again. After the deaths of many, including Tenma's own wife, he was eventually able to seal it within his own youngest son, Kina, though at the cost of his own life as well. |
