This creature was created as part of the Player Equivalent CR variant rule, and as such does not follow traditional CR. Additionally, it is meant to portray a wide variety of creatures with similar abilities, and is much less specific than typical 5e creatures.

Keen Sense. The beast has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on one sense, as determined by its variant.

ACTIONS

Swipe. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage.


Medium beasts sit in the middle of the food chain between small and large beasts. They typically stay in capable packs, whether to protect their young, to take down larger prey, or to watch for predators more efficiently, in addition to how difficult it is for creatures of their size to hide.

Variants

Ape. The beast can make thrown attacks with improvised weapons with a range of 25/50 feet, with the same damage and bonus to attack rolls as their unarmed strikes, and the beast has a climbing speed of 30 feet. Its Keen Sense is sight.

Austroraptor. The beast's swipe attack deals slashing damage, and the beast can make a swipe attack against a prone creature as a bonus action. Its Keen Sense is hearing and smell.

Avian. The beast has a flying speed of 30 feet., and a movement speed of 10 feet. Its Keen Sense is sight.

Boar. If the beast moves at least 20 feet straight toward a target and then hits it with a swipe attack on the same turn, the target takes an extra 3 (1d6) damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. Its Keen Sense is sight

Canine. The beast has advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the beast's allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated. Its Keen Sense is hearing and smell.

Deer. The beast does not count as touching the ground while it is moving. Its Keen Sense is sound.

Feline. The beast has advantage on Stealth checks and may take the Dash action as a bonus action if it does not take the Attack action. Its Keen Sense is touch.

Giant Badger. The beast gains a burrowing speed of 10 feet. Its Keen Sense is smell.

Giant Crab. The beast can breath in air and water, and has a swimming and climbing speed equal to its movement speed. Its Keen Sense is sight.

Giant Frog. The beast's swipe attack has a reach of 10 feet, and it deals poison damage. Its Keen Sense is touch.

Giant Poisonous Snake. When the beast hit a creature with its swipe attack, the target must attempt a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, taking an additional 3 (1d6) poison for 1 minute on a failed save. The target may retry this saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending this effect early on a success.

Giant Wasp. The beast has a flying speed equal to its movement speed. When the beast hit a creature with its swipe attack, the target must attempt a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, becoming poisoned for 1 minute on a failed save. The target may retry this saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending this effect early on a success.

Giant Weasel. The beast has 60 feet of darkvision. Its Keen Sense is hearing and smell.

Giant Spider. The beast can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check, and has climbing speed of 40 feet. Its Keen Sense is sight.

Goat. The beast is not affected by difficult terrain, and has advantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws against being knocked prone. Its Keen Sense is touch.

Mule. The beast counts as one size larger when determining its carrying capacity and the weight it can push, drag, or lift. Its Keen Sense is touch.

Shark. The beast has a swimming speed of 60 feet and a movement speed of 5 feet, can only breath water, and its swipe attack deals piercing damage, as well as an additional +3 damage. Its Keen Sense is smell.
