Midwife's Spell
1st-level Transmutation (ritual)
Casting time: 1 minute
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (various herbs)
Duration: Instantaneous

Known only as the "Midwife's Spell", this hushed collection of folk magic is used to ease those in need through the acts of conception and childbirth. When you cast this spell, choose one of the following options, the target of which must be within 10 feet of you throughout the casting. Some of these options require an additional consumed material component which must be provided at the time of casting.

Alter Child (consumes 50 gp of diamond dust). You touch one pregnant creature in the first or second trimester throughout the casting of the spell and alter developing characteristics of a child it is pregnant with. You can change the sex of the child, or bless it with an outstanding general trait such as "strength", "intellect", or "leadership". Irregardless of how many times this spell is cast on a child, it only has effect once and has a 50% chance to be revealed as having failed once the child is born.

Determine Pregnancy. You touch one creature throughout the casting of the spell. You learn if the creature is pregnant or not, and any details of the pregnancy such as the physical characteristics of the child, the duration of the pregnancy, if there will be twins, etc..

Induce Birth (consumes 5 sp of uncommon herbs). You touch one pregnant creature throughout the casting of the spell and attempt to induce labor. The target must make a DC 15 Constitution ability check. On a success, the target goes into labor and gives birth. If the target is in the first or second trimester, the birth is a stillbirth. Otherwise, they give birth to a healthy child with no additional complications.

Improved Conception (consumes 5 sp of uncommon herbs). You touch one creature throughout the casting of the spell and attempt to improve its ability to conceive. Once within the next 24 hours when the target attempts conception, it can make a DC 10 Constitution ability check. On a success, if a pregnancy is physically possible, it occurs from the act.

Prevent Conception. You touch one creature throughout the casting of the spell. For the next 24 hours, the target can't become pregnant or impregnate others by any means short of a wish spell or the power of a deity. This spell has no effect on a creature already pregnant.
