This melee attack spell evokes the deadly touch of vorpal energy to empower a non-magical weapon in your possession. When you use this spell it adds the most appropriate of the following effects to the next Critical Hit you make using the material component:
- If the material component is a slashing weapon, the cut becomes a vorpal cut, you rend armour and flesh like wet paper, severing, bisecting and dismembering with your motion. The damage is fatal in almost all cases.
- If the material component is a piercing weapon, the thrust becomes a vorpal thrust, you impale and run through the target, any item they used to defend is damaged or outright destroyed (a shield is destroyed, armour is punched open around the wound).
- If the material component is a bludgeoning weapon, the impact becomes a vorpal slam, you will crush and pulverise as if the target was made of soft clay (the enemy AC is treated as half it actual value).
A creature is immune to this effect if it has a legendary action (all of which will be consumed), or the GM decides that the creature is otherwise not fatally affected by such catastrophic injury (such as a Gibbering Horror). In such cases the creature instead takes an extra 6d8 of the appropriate damage from the hit.
This spell is stable and will maintain itself indefinitely until it is disrupted by doing damage or being used to defend at which point, the spell ends.
