Reincarnation
5th-level divination (ritual)
Casting time: 1 hour
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (rare herbs worth at least 1,000 gp, which the spell consumes)
Duration: 24 hours

You perform a sacred ritual to tether the soul of a creature to the cosmic forces of renewal and transformation. Choose a creature within range, including yourself. For the next 24 hours, if the chosen creature dies after failing their third death saving throw, their soul is immediately reincarnated into a new body and given a new destiny.

  • Upon reincarnation, the creature may choose a new race and class. Their physical traits, racial abilities, and class features change to match their new choices. The creature's memories, personality, alignment, and level remain intact. The reincarnated creature gains all features of their new class as if they had advanced to their current level in that class.
  • The reincarnated creature regains hit points equal to half their hit point maximum and wakes up fully restored in their new form. This transformation severs the creature's ties to their previous form, making them unaffected by spells like revivify, true resurrection, or similar effects.
  • The reincarnation process grants the creature a +1 bonus to an ability score of their choice, representing the spiritual and physical renewal. This can't increase an ability score above 20.
  • If the target does not die within the 24-hour duration, the spell ends harmlessly.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the reincarnated creature can retain one feature from their original class or race, chosen by the DM or the player.
