Once a promising young genin in the Hidden Leaf Village, Mizuki was raised to respect his village's Will of Fire, saving one of his fellow genin, Iruka, from bullies on multiple occasions. However, when Iruka started receiving preferential treatment from the Third Hokage for his parents' death during the Nine-Tails' attack, perceiving it as unfair due to everyone having lost close family from the attack and the three wars they had fought, Mizuki became bitter, secretly sabotaging Iruka at any chance he got while pretending to be his friend. After becoming a chunin, Mizuki was sent on a mission to steal documents from one of the bordering villages. When one of his allies suffered a leg injury, Mizuki suffocated him to death rather than allow him to hinder their mission, earning a nearby Orochimaru's respect, being gifted an incomplete Cursed Mark. Reporting the death as being from his injuries, a long investigation earned him a heap of suspicion, and kept him from ranking any higher than chunin. Following Iruka to becoming a teacher in the Academy, he eventually taught Naruto Uzumaki, believing the jinchuriki to be worthless at best, and evil at worst. Intentionally failing him multiple times, Mizuki revealed a different way to graduate to him in private: steal the Scroll of Seals and learn one of the forbidden jutsu within it. Planning to kill Naruto and take the village to Orochimaru to become one of his shinobi that night, Iruka found the boy first, and the two easily beat him together thanks to the Nine-Tails' chakra. Months later, he and the Legendary Stupid Brothers escaped from one of the Hidden Leaf Village's prisons, finalizing his Cursed Mark before having a rematch against Naruto and Iruka, but was undone by the mark's side effects and Naruto's Rasengan. While he survived, his crippled body had no chances of becoming a shinobi again, and he and the Legendary Stupid Brothers were sent back to prison. Variant: Cursed MarkAfter finalizing his Cursed Mark using the Nara clan's medical knowledge, Mizuki became far more powerful. Mizuki gains the following features: Black Chakra. Some of Mizuki's features grant him "black chakra". Black chakra can exceed his maximum chakra, and is lost at the end of a long rest. Mizuki can spend black chakra as if it were normal chakra, but if he chooses to do so he must spend an equal number of normal and black chakra. While Mizuki has more black chakra than regular chakra, he must attempt a DC 15 Charisma saving throw at the end of each of his turns. On a failure, he becomes berserk until the end of his next turn. Additionally, he gains the following jutsu: Cursed Mark. As a bonus action, Mizuki gains the following until he ends this effect as an action:
Second State. While Cursed Mark is active, Mizuki gains the following:
