Crown of Stars, Variant
5th-level Evocation
Casting time: 1 Action
Range: Self
Components: V, S
Duration: Varies

You conjure a crown or mantle of stars of your with an appearance of your choosing that linger above your head. When using this spell you must choose your method of casting between Instant or Concentration.

Instant You immediately create radiant 5 stars which shimmer briefly before launching themselves. For each star, choose a target within 60ft, you may choose to use target the same creature with as many stars as you create or target different creatures within range. A target must make a Dexterity Saving Throw or take 3d4 Radiant damage for each star on a failure or half as much damage on a success. Additionally, creatures that fail their saving throw will emit a 5ft radius of bright light causing the next attack made against them to be made with advantage. All stars created strike simultaneously.

Concentration You create 5 light motes which orbit above your head causing you to emit 5ft of bright light and 10ft of dim light beyond that. These motes will linger for the next hour while you continue to maintain concentration and while you posses at least one mote, they can be utilized in a variety of ways:

Mote Uses
Options Effect
Homing Star As a bonus action, you may expend one mote to target a creature within 120ft of you. When you do so, make a spell attack roll again them. On a hit, the creature takes 4d6 radiant damage and causes the next attack made against the creature to be made with advantage.
Star Detonation As an action, you may expend as many motes as you have available to target a 10ft radius within 60ft of you and cause all creatures within to make a dexterity saving throw. On a failure, the creatures take 2d4+3 radiant damage per mote expended. Additionally, for every additional mote expended beyond the first, increase the range of the radius by 5ft.
Star of Protection As a reaction whenever you or an ally within 60ft is attacked, you may expend a single mote to aid them. The triggering attack against them will have disadvantage, and that ally will gain 2d4+2 temporary hit points. These temporary hit points can stack and last until depleted or the end of combat.
Cosmic Judgement As an action, you muster all your wrath causing your motes to coalesce above a creature within 300ft if you, manifesting a massive spear of judgement before smiting them. The creature targeted must make a Constitution Saving throw taking 1d12+5 per mote expended or half as much on a success.
Star Forge As an action you may create two motes to replenish those you've already expended. When using this action you cannot exceed the maximum motes created at the time of casting this spell and you cannot use Homing Star for the remainder of this turn.

Due to how exhausting using this spell in concentration mode, you must take a long rest before casting it in that manner again.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, you conjure one additional radiant star or mote for every spell slot above 5th level. When cast at a 7th tier spell slot, you may maintain concentration on this spell for up to 8 hours and at 9th tier, concentration can be held for 24 hours.
