You envelop your spells in a dark, unnatural flame that insidiously drains the lifeblood of your targets. For the duration, damage-dealing spells you cast are empowered by the following effects:
- Unholy Burn: Creatures affected by the main spell’s damage take an additional d4 necrotic damage at the start of each of their turns for 1 minute. The flames cannot be extinguished by any conventional means and can only be extinguished by magical means.
- Maximum Life Reduction: Whenever you deal damage with a spell empowered by Black Flame, you temporarily reduce the target’s maximum life by an amount equal to the necrotic damage dealt (maximum 5 points per turn). This reduction lasts until they complete a long rest.
- Energy Conversion: If a creature is killed while under the effects of Black Flame, you can use your reaction to gain temporary hit points equal to the necrotic damage dealt by the spell that caused its death.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher: Unholy burn's damage increases by 1d4 for each higher level. The maximum life reduction per turn increases by 2 points for each higher level.
