Bafflement (5e Spell)
2nd-level Enchantment (ritual) | |
Casting time: | 1 minute |
---|---|
Range: | 10 feet |
Components: | V, S, M (a puff of smoke such as from holding a burning object) |
Duration: | Concentration, up to 1 hour |
You slowly sap the awareness of a creature you can see within range. In order to cast this spell, you must remain in conversation with and within range of the target for the entire casting time.
The target must make an Intelligence saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is charmed until the spell ends or until you or your companions do anything harmful to it. While charmed in this way, a creature's Intelligence and Charisma scores become 1, and the creature can't cast spells, activate magic items, understand language, or communicate in any intelligible way. The creature can, however, identify its friends, follow them, and even protect them.
On a success, the creature realizes that you used magic to influence its mood and becomes hostile toward you. A creature prone to violence might attack you. Another creature might seek retribution in other ways (at the DM's discretion), depending on the nature of your interaction with it.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, its range increases by 10 feet, you can target one additional creature, and its ritual casting time increases by 5 minutes for each slot level above 1st. The creatures must be within 10 feet of each other when you target them.
