Glide. For every 5 feet it falls downward, the hiploop can expend 5 feet of movement to fly 10 feet forward. While it can move, the hiploop is immune to damage from falling.

Removable Armor. The hiploop's steel mask serves as its natural armor. A creature that successfully grapples the hiploop can forcefully remove it. Subject to your DM's discretion, other effects can remove it (such as a clawshot attack or a called shot made to disarm the mask). If this armor is removed, the hiploop's AC is reduced to 13, and it cannot use its Gore attack.

ACTIONS

Gore. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d12 + 2) piercing damage.

Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) bludgeoning damage.

A hiploop is a roughly spherical insect with two to six legs, as large as a domesticated dog, which is usually of a bright red or yellow color. Although they are most abundant in marshes and swamps, these highly adaptable creatures can be found every from deep caves to open prairies. A hiploop is carnivorous, and known to attempt to make a meal out of almost anything it comes across that doesn't vastly outsize it.

Steel Mask. Hiploops are renowned for their capability to grow a steel-like mask that at once serves as protective armor and an offensive weapon. This is so true hiploops themselves are sometimes called "iron masks." This mask is adorned with a prominent spike they use to gore prey and ward off predators. As a hiploop grows and changes, its mask is occasionally molted, leaving it momentarily defenseless until a new one is grown in its place.

Variant: Unarmored Hiploop[edit]

This variant of hiploop lacks its signature mask, usually because its in the process of molting. It has an AC of 13. It lacks the Removable Armor trait and the Gore action.

An unarmored hiploop has a Challenge Rating of 1/4 (50 XP).
