Wurms (5e Creature)
From D&D Wiki
Wurms[edit]
Deep beneath the earth, meandering tunnels house the dragons known as wurms. A wurm's body is covered in shimmering scales and is limbless, save for a pair of wings, though as wurms are generally clumsy in the air, they rarely fly. The head of a wurm is very bizarre indeed, as though it may at first resemble the head of a dragon, it is actually a mouth that splits into four toothy segments which clamp tightly around prey. Each segment has a single eye, though normally at least two of the eyes are closed, only opening when the dragon hunts.
Altogether, a wurm that has only partially emerged from the ground can easily be confused for a true dragon, particularly if visibility is poor or the creature is obscured. Compounding this confusion, the most well-known types of wurm closely resemble chromatic dragons: veil for white, verdant for green, vitriolic for black, volcanic for red and voltage for blue. The only wurm that doesn't resemble a chromatic dragon is the vicious wurm, causing some to speculate that they are juveniles or otherwise somehow transform into the other types.
Some unscrupulous merchants collect wurm scales and fashion them into fake suits of dragon scale mail, though experienced dragon hunters can tell them apart with ease and refer to them as wurm scale mail. A curse born of the wurm's malice lingers upon such armor, making its use inadvisable.
Tunnel Territory. Each wurm claims a section of tunnels as a territory which can be miles across, though the territories of different wurms often overlap. It has been observed that territorial disputes between wurms are incredibly rare, even between different types of wurms. Indeed, while wurms mostly hunt alone, it is far from unheard of for one or more wurms to happen upon another in the midst of a hunt and join in. If the hunt is successful, the group then splits the spoils and separates shortly after.
