Platinum. Common trade good (metal), 1000 gp per kilogram. Platinum is a precious metal with a silvery-white color, distinguished by how rarely it can be found. Compared to similar metals like iron or silver, platinum is exceptionally resistant to corrosion, making it occasionally sought for art pieces intended to last for generations. It is considered by many to be the most desirable metal in use for jewelry.
According to some this metal is needed to create the incredible material adamantite, worth ten times as much as even platinum, making platinum itself highly sought by smiths and sages in the hopes of crafting this legendary substance.
For practical purposes as a general-use material, platinum does not perform significantly better than steel or other more abundant, less expensive materials. Platinum is thus used almost exclusively for aesthetic purposes and attempts to create adamantite. The super-rich mint and use coins called platinum pieces, each which are widely considered to be worth 10 gold coins.
A standard ingot or "bar" of platinum weighs 1 kilogram and costs 1,000 gp. This ingot is a petty item.
