Talk:Lycanthrope (5e Race)

Hello and thank you for creating this subrace. It's helped me and a player of mine alot though I did have one question. When the article says that equipment doesn't transform with you, does that mean that it breaks if you get larger or falls off if you get smaller? and in that case what about those who stay medium, do they still get benifits from armor, and if that's the case then why would the the transformation get natural armor if it's replaced by the player's armor anyway?

Thank you for reading my concerns.

From the looks of it, the stuff you would wear would either fall off, break, or screw with you. For example, if you wear full plate while transforming, the odds of that breaking seem very low, so you'd most likely just be stuck wearing ill fitting armor. I'm not super clear on how wearing armor that doesn't fit works, but I assume it's either DM Fiat or it just doesn't confer a bonus. --SwankyPants (talk) 16:55, 18 January 2021 (MST)
Ok, thank you very much!

Template[edit]

I see on the supposed OP's page (Veradalycan) that this was supposed to be a template? In that case, it should be moved and be for monsters, like these.--Yanied (talk) 12:43, 14 January 2022 (MST)

Namespace[edit]

If others agree with the changes (more like deletions) I made, I think it is appropriate to move this to a subrace namespace. I don't want to jump the gun in case there is a strong conviction to maintain this as a race, and this keeping the current namespace. Revival (talk) 09:23, 4 March 2022 (MST)

That would make more sense. In all honesty, though, lycanthropy is a disease in 5e. In older editions, lycanthropes of all sorts existed, usually as LA-races... It could also work a heritage maybe, like the ones from Ravenloft, with the Dhampir being the best example off the top of my head.--Yanied (talk) 11:56, 4 March 2022 (MST)
I 100% agree 5e has it as a disease, but I believe this variation of the disease makes for more balanced play? I will have to look at that example to see what you mean. Revival (talk) 12:39, 4 March 2022 (MST)
I might be erring on it as a heritage (was it lineage?). It's in Van Richten's Guide, which gives, I believe, 3 such examples (Dhampir, Reborn, Hexblood)--Yanied (talk) 13:03, 4 March 2022 (MST)

I made another subrace![edit]

In case anyone was interested, I homebrewed a subrace for lycanthropes that turns them into pomeranians :)
