Talk:Lich (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
one of the way i balanced this for my campaign is by reducing all physical stats down to 8 without the ability to improve them by non magical means. that should more than pay for all the downsides. i love this race and i think this will balance it.
Wouldn't this fit better as a class instead of a race? --Lavie (talk) 20:03, 18 August 2021 (MDT)
- Honestly, that just sounds like a worse idea. Sure, they already make good spellcasters, but as soon as you give them those negatives, you 1) pidgeonhole them into being a caster and 2) give them no major downsides. Sure, having a -1 to my AC and a good chunk of lost hitpoints sucks, but you're a spellcaster, taking damage isn't your problem. Beyond that, you prevent someone from running a Lich fighter, or barbarian, or just anybody that wants to swing a weapon at someone. Even then, actual liches aren't doing too bad in the physical stats, so it seems even more dissonant.
- If anything, look at the Lichkin (5e Race) page. It makes a much better lich than this race, and if you want ideas I cannot recommend it enough. --SwankyPants (talk) 20:14, 18 August 2021 (MDT)
