Type[edit]

I'm torn about making them Undead since the source material (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Einherjar) would suggest that they would be, but since they aren't negatively powered, it seemed wrong, so I opted to make them Outsiders instead. Unfortunately, to make this work as a playable race, I do have to take some liberties from the source material (which would really work better as a template). Anyways, any input on this matter would be appreciated, since this is an adoption page (and I feel it's a community project as such). --Ganteka 00:26, 6 September 2008 (MDT)

It should be a template for sure. Seems like an interesting concept. Just go ahead and do what you want with it. If the IP whom created this actually cares, we can just "branch" it. I would make it an outsider as well despite the fact that it is a spirit. I would make the LA high (but also grant a lot of bonuses) to indicate that the spirits of the warriors do not become greater heroes after death and can't really progress in their learning (no more levels for them). Either that or have some requirement that they have to gain X Outsider HD before they can gain more levels in a class (though Outsider HD are pretty awesome). --Aarnott 10:09, 6 September 2008 (MDT)
Well, I think I managed to stay true enough to the idea of the source material with the Outsider Type. Still not sure about giving them class restrictions though, or even a favored class, since any martial class can be a "brave warrior" and I don't want to list a whole load of them. Is it fair to put Favored Class: Outsider, since outsider HD rock a lot. Though, if I really wanted to limit them, I think having a clause like "they take double the EXP penalty for any multiclassing" might suffice, but again, that just seems kinda mean and hard to justify. --Ganteka 13:35, 6 September 2008 (MDT).
You never take XP penalties for leveling in racial HD, so Favored Class: Outsider is the same as Favored Class: None. In any case, racial HD might not be a bad way to go. Believe it or not, but racial HD lower LAs... Outsiders not so much since Outsider HD rock, but racial HD, be they Outsider, or Animal, are always weaker than class levels and thus subtract from the total LA. Just so you know. -- Eiji 17:20, 6 September 2008 (MDT)

LA[edit]

Well, I checked the LA against an ECL calculator, and it came up an even LA 2. I know parts of the race look strong (its ability scores total to +18, their 40 foot lands speed and +2 natural armor). Honestly, Having this race at LA 3, I wouldn't play it, especially as a martial character, loosing 3 levels worth of HP and base saves would be killer. As is, the LA still hurts, but for what it gets, it seems like a fair trade off. Also, they get no Skill bonuses, which usually drives up LA. Their Ethereal Jaunt ability is mostly useless (1 round at their first level). The Darkvision is nice, if not all that useful in most games. The fear immunity isn't bound to come up much either. The Morale Boost is nice, but again, not common in most games, and certainly not game breaking. Well, if anyone disagrees with it's LA, chime in, I'd like this race to be as playable and balanced as possible.--Ganteka 15:55, 20 September 2008 (MDT)

I am somewhat concerned, considering the amount of ability score boosts you get, for simply a +2 LA. +18 spread over all stats with no diminishing stat seems rather huge, even not considering the other abilities of the class. Two extra feats, Toughness and Endurance, Natural Armor, a Spell-like ability, albeit less useful than most, as well Darkvision and Immunities and a 10+ ft boost. It seems incredibly overpowered, just considering a few of it's qualities. Jwguy 10:57, 10 October 2009 (MDT)

Einherjar in Aegir[edit]

Hey Ganteka!

Einherjar will exist in my new campaign world, Aegir, which has some Norse flairs. I really like this version of the dead warriors, so I'm going to link it. I'll let ya know if anyone in my campaign plays one. Thanks for the hard work! --Jiyambi 15:15, 21 October 2008 (MDT)
