If you want to make a subclass that have both a strong melee option for combat and full casting, take a look at druid to get an idea of how you would balance it. Anastacio (talk) 12:15, 16 March 2021 (MDT)

Flight Speed[edit]

Now, I know that flight speed has always been a problematic discussion in D&D, but I feel that moving it down to 10 ft. of fly speed at level 5 is too much of a debuff. We have multiple races in D&D with innate fly speed, and some that are getting temporary fly speeds of 30 feet at level 3 (UA's new Gem Dragonborn). With this, and the fact that level 5 characters have access to the Fly spell, having a 10 foot fly speed and a 50 foot walking speed just doesn't make sense. Honestly, having a flying speed of 30 feet wouldn't be too bad. Seeing how Aaracokra have 50 feet, and most other faces have 30 feet, having an innate 30 foot flying speed shouldn't be too game-breaking. Now, that's just my thoughts on it, do what you wish with them. --Draconyx77 (talk) 18:29, 17 May 2021 (MDT)

Would you call the Aaracokra balanced though? Also, true, level 5 characters have access to the fly spell, but only for 10 minutes a day and requiring concentration. Also, UA is not a good basis for comparison, since more often than not UA content is nerfed when turned official. With all that said, i would assume that this class should get his perma-flying at 14th level, like most classes that do grant this type of feature (draconic bloodline sorcerers and divine soul sorcerers). Yeah, you have a good point. Either way though, a fly speed of ten feet just doesn’t make sense. It should probably either be changed, or removed. There is a good reason why speeds of 10 feet aren’t in D&D races or classes. They’re just too slow to really be practical. And the fact that you have to land at the end makes it redundant, simply because by now, your Strength is likely high enough to long jump that far or further. It should probably be removed.

Rebalancing[edit]

The current class is OP and Ive reworked the damage numbers to not be, I have not fully tested it, so it may still be a bit powerful. as-well as added a final skill for path of wyrms, which was before not there.--Artif (talk) 00:00, 24 September 2021 (MDT)

The 18th level feature you gave includes round counting, which is to be avoided. Also, can you not change the links to the longer SRD ones? The damage is never magical as well outside spells. If you want to nerf the damage, just go in and do that, but please leave the links alone. The longer SRD links add in extra bytes. Also, how is it OP? --Lavie (talk) 05:33, 24 September 2021 (MDT)

Do you not see the ridiculous ability score increases right now? The highest this grants you is 30. Listen, that edit has kinks to work out, but the balance of this page is already way out of wack. Please stop halting attempts to do something about it. --SwankyPants (talk) 06:01, 24 September 2021 (MDT)

You don't know how to round? why is it supposed to be avoided enough for you to just delete it and have nothing there at all. And im not sure what you mean by round counting, you just multiply the damage number by x amount, Just like how you would multiply a critical. The class is incredibly op, without any magical items and simply by being the class it attains god levels of Strength Dex and con. And at level 10 you gain resistance to nearly all damage types. --Artif (talk) 00:00, 24 September 2021 (MDT)

The round counting is a precedent thing that's avoided outside 1 round, 1 minute (combat), etc. See the spell design guide for more information. This class could have a complete overhaul as well, and just be a dragon lord, with the paths centered around the different types of dragons (chromatic, gem, lung, metallic, and planar), especially without spellcasting. --Lavie (talk) 16:02, 24 September 2021 (MDT)

I don't know where you're seeing this round counting on the spell design guide. https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Spell_Design_(5e_Guideline) . If you feel like reworking this class go ahead, but the ability score increases need to be nerfed or completely removed. --Artif (talk) 00:00, 24 September 2021 (MDT)

Effect duration, and they will be. --Lavie (talk) 16:17, 24 September 2021 (MDT)

Alright well good luck then. --Artif (talk) 00:00, 24 September 2021 (MDT)

Hi, I really like the abyssal dragon lord and my gm says I can use it with some changes but I don't see it anymore, can someone get me some help? Maybe a copy of the class or something. I don't know if this is the right place to ask something like that but I really don't understand how the page works, I would appreciate the help. --Dragon Slayer (talk).

Check the history tab. --Lavie (talk) 05:30, 25 September 2021 (MDT)

Overhaul[edit]

Might start working on the overhaul after Fizban's Treasury of Dragons comes out because it'd make making this class easier. --Lavie (talk) 07:24, 25 September 2021 (MDT)
