Mea Culpa (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
, artifact (Requires attunement by a paladin)
Also known as “the guilty blade,” Mea Culpa is a longsword with a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls. This sword was born of suffering and now feeds on it, and it is said that its owner is destined to take the guilt of the entire world onto their shoulders. It’s hilt is covered in thorns, representative of the suffering its user will go through.
blood cutter A. Using an action, you prick yourself with Mea Culpa’s thorns, taking 5 irreduceable damage and throwing a disc of blood at your opponents. This disc is a ranged spell attack with a range of 50 feet that deals 1d12 damage plus your charisma modifier in magical slashing damage. Upon hitting or missing its target, the disc evaporates into the air.
strength through suffering B. You may roll up to 5d8, reducing your hit point maximum by the total number rolled and regaining spell slots equal to the number of d8 rolled. Each slot level requires one extra d8 to be rolled. You may not use this ability to obtain slots of a level you would not normally have, nor can you exceed your maximum number of spell slots for any level. (For example, a level 13 paladin may expend 3d8 and either recover 3 1st level spell slots, 2 2nd level spell slots and 1 1st level spell slot, or 1 3rd level spell slot.) Your hit point maximum is restored at the end of a long rest.
Destroying the Mea Culpa. Mea Culpa can only be destroyed if the power that created it is destroyed, in which case its blade crumbles to dust, leaving only the hilt, void of magic, behind.
