Idate Morino is the far younger brother of Ibiki Morino. Despite having made it through the first round of the Chunin Exams, his team was permanently disqualified in the second round for sacrificing their squad's future for personal gain, with even his idolized older brother accusing him of not being cut out to become a shinobi. However, Aoi Rokusho, a Hidden Leaf Village chunin presented him with another means of graduating from being a genin: to steal a certain scroll and the Sword of the Thunder God from the Hokage's Office. However, when he succeeded thanks to his great speed, Aoi informed him that they were not seeking graduation within the Hidden Leaf Village, they were now criminals, but would be made chunin and jonin within the Hidden Rain Village with their gifts. When Ibiki attempted to rescue his younger brother, he too was captured and tortured, though he eventually escaped, burning down the hideout and separating himself, Idate, and Aoi from one another. As he wandered the countryside, a traitor of the Leaf and a failure to the Rain, he was forced to steal to earn his keep, eventually failing to pickpocket the wealthy Wasabi clan head within the Land of Tea, who took pity and adopted him. Three years later, Idate was chosen as the runner for the Todoroki Shrine Race, a footrace in the Land of Tea to determine a years-long feud over Degarashi Port between the Wasabi clan and Wagarashi clan. In order to impede foul play, the Hidden Leaf Village's young Team 7 was hired to protect Idate, even more so after he found out that Aoi and Team Oboro were protecting the Wagarashi clan's own runner. In the end, the Wasabi clan became the primary clan of the Land of Tea, while the Wagarashi disintegrated into various pockets after their misdeeds through Aoi were revealed. |
