Hollow[edit]

Every person is born in the human world with a chain of fate connecting their soul to their body by their heart. While this chain is typically severed upon death, sending them to Soul Society, those who die with deeply held regrets are bound to the world of the living by this chain, which slowly begins to decay. Typically these "jibakurei" are transported to Soul Society by a Shinigami, but those whose chain of fate fully decays are painfully twisted into Hollows. This process happens much faster in the souls of sinners.

Hollows are most easily distinguished by the gaping holes where their chain of fate once lie, the thick white mask that covers their face, and their strange and monstrous bodies. On that final point, there's very little consistency among Hollow body types; some have taken humanoid forms, others more beastly forms, and yet others do not resemble any other living or unliving thing.

Mindless Hunger[edit]

A Hollow's hunger for souls is inherently insatiable. Due to the ever-vigilant watch of the Shinigami Corps, however, many Hollows are forced to cannibalize their own kind in their home dimension, Hueco Mundo. While this grants a quick, less risky path to power, it results in mindless Hollows, many of whom lose even the ability to speak. In contrast, Hollows that solely consume uncorrupted souls, or have a powerful soul that is able to establish dominance within its body, are able to keep their intelligence and grow to higher levels of power, though these "Arrancar" must typically break their mask, renouncing some of their regenerative abilities in order to do so.

If a creature takes this class at 1st level and wishes to multiclass out of it, they must break their mask as an action for 10 Reiryoku, making a DC 30 Wisdom saving throw. On a success, they can multiclass out of this class as they become an Arrancar. On a failure, they can not regain Reiryoku until the end of their next long rest as their souls begin vying for power again.

Corrupted Soul[edit]

Under the right circumstances, living souls are able to allow a Hollow to infect their soul, creating their own "inner Hollow" through a process referred to in Soul Society as Hollowfication. Typically this would result in "Soul Suicide"; their soul's Reiryoku coming in contact with their inner Hollow's like matter and antimatter, resulting in the complete annihilation of their soul. However, strong souls, particularly those with high-level Shinigami power, and souls given specially-formulated vaccines only known to Soul Society's top-ranking scientists, are able to overcome this process, becoming part Hollow; a Visored capable of summoning a Hollow mask to enhance their power.

A creature may acquire their own Hollow power by dropping to 0 hit points from an attack by a Hollow while made of Kishi and having at least 5 Reiryoku and making a DC 30 Charisma saving throw. On a success, they can multiclass into this class as their blood is awakened. On a failure, they are killed instantly and can not be resurrected by any means.

Creating a Hollow[edit]

As you build your Hollow, think about character’s background in regards to your Hollow powers: Were you Hell-bound in life, did a Hollow abduct you as a jibakurei, or were you simply left behind by Soul Society? Do you have much of a reputation in Hueco Mundo? Do you aspire to become an Arrancar, or is there too much turmoil among your souls?

Hollow Reiryoku[edit]

At 1st level, you gain the power of a Hollow. You have a number of Reiryoku points equal to your level in this class, and all Reiryoku from this class is regained at the end of a long rest. You can only spend Reiryoku from this class and use this class's features while you are a soul.

Some of your Hollow features require your target to make a saving throw to resist the feature's effects. The saving throw DC is calculated as follows:

Hollow effect save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier
Hollow attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + Constitution modifier

Hollowfication[edit]

At 1st level, your soul is shaped in a certain way depending on how you underwent Hollowfication. Choose between Pure Hollow, Arrancar, or Visored, all detailed at the end of the class description. Your choice grants you features at 10th level and again at 20th, 30th, and 40th level. This does not count as a subclass for the sake of multisubclassing

Reiatsu[edit]

At 2nd level, you begin emitting spiritual pressure exceeding that of a normal soul. You may spend 1 Reiryoku at the beginning of your turn to release your Reiatsu until the beginning of your next turn, learning the direction from you of each creature within 30 feet and each of their proficiency bonuses, and if a creature's proficiency bonus is half your own or lower they take bludgeoning damage equal to your level.

At 29th level, the range this feature targets is doubled.

Hollow Hunger[edit]

At 2nd level, as a reaction when you kill a creature that would not be affected by your Reiatsu, you may consume their soul, regaining half their remaining Reiryoku and cause them to be unable to be resurrected by any means.

Hollow Ability[edit]

At 2nd level, you gain one Hollow Ability, all detailed at the end of this class description. You gain an additional Hollow Ability at 5th, 9th, 13th, 17th, 21st, 25th, and 37th level. Certain Hollow abilities can only be gained if you have a certain Hollowfication.

Spiritual Expertise[edit]

At 3rd level, you chose a field in which to hone your spirit. Choose one Spiritual Expertise. Your choice grants you features at 7rd level, and again at 11th, 15th, 18th, 23rd, 27th, 32st, 35th, and 38th level.

Ability Score Improvement[edit]

When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.

When you reach 24th level, and again at 28th level, you can increase your ability scores by a total of 3 points to a maximum of 30. When you reach 32nd level, and again at 36th and 39th level, you can increase your ability scores by a total of 4 points to a maximum of 40.

Extra Attack[edit]

At 6th level, you may attack twice instead of once when you take the Attack action. This increases to three attacks at 33rd level.

Resistant[edit]

At 14th level, choose one of the following ability scores. When you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a saving throw of the chosen ability to take only half damage, you instead take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw, and only half damage if you fail.

You may choose a second of the above effects at 34th level.

Beyond Mortal[edit]

At 22nd level, you may add half your proficiency bonus to any saving throws you are not proficient in.

Honed Body and Mind[edit]

At 26th level, your health is unrivaled by any but those on your tier of power and the immortal. The number of levels of exhaustion, as well as gradual blindness, deafness, and numbness required for each effect is doubled, as is your maximum age.

Hollowfications[edit]

Pure Hollow[edit]

Pure Hollows are beings of endless hunger, their tens to thousands of souls making focusing their power incredibly difficult, but making their death extremely difficult to accomplish.

Regeneration

At 1st level, as a bonus action for 1 Reiryoku, you or one of your body parts may regain 6 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus hit points. This can restore hit points to a body part's higher tiers.

Menos Grande

At 10th level, you have absorbed a wealth of power, evolving into a higher state. You gain a number of Menos Reiryoku equal to your proficiency bonus. Menos Reiryoku can only be spent on one Hollow Ability of your choice and is regained at the end of a short rest.

Adjuchas

At 20th level, you evolve once more, gaining a more humanoid form. You may either double your Menos Reiryoku maximum or be able to spend your Menos Reiryoku on a second Hollow Technique.

Vasto Lorde

At 30th level, you evolve to the highest level of power a Hollow can reach; it is said no more than ten Vasto Lorde exist at a time. You gain a bonus to your attack and damage rolls, AC, saving throws, and saving throw DC equal to half your Constitution modifier while you have at least half your maximum Hollow Reiryoku, and you gain the effect of Adjuchas you did not take at 20th level.

Beyond Vasto Lorde

At 40th level, you evolve to a form of Hollow none have ever seen. While your Reiryoku is no lower than your proficiency bonus from your maximum, Vasto Lorde's bonus is doubled, your Menos Reiryoku maximum increases by your proficiency bonus, and you can spend your Menos Reiryoku on a third Hollow Technique.

Arrancar[edit]

Arrancar are Hollows that have liberated themselves from the vortex of souls within their body, breaking their mask and taking on a more humanoid form. You must take this Hollowfication if you multiclass into another class after taking this class at 1st level, and you lose any Pure Hollow features you have.

Certain features from this Hollowfication require the player to create the benefits of a feature. You may instead choose a Resurrección example, or use said examples to gain a grasp of the general power such a feature should wield.

Hollow Zanpakuto

At 1st level, as an action for 1 Reiryoku, you may summon your Hollow Zanpakuto; a magic weapon made of the nucleus of your Hollow powers. You may dematerialize your Hollow Zanpakuto as a bonus action, and it automatically dematerializes when you fall unconscious or summon it again. Your Zanpakuto takes one of the following forms, which must be chosen when you take this feature and can not be changed:

  • Saber: your Hollow Zanpakuto is a simple melee weapon with the finesse and versatile properties, and deals 1d8 + your level + your Dexterity modifier slashing damage on a hit while being wielded in two hands, or 1d6 + half your level + your Dexterity modifier slashing damage while being wielded in one hand.
  • Dagger: your Hollow Zanpakuto is a simple melee weapon with the thrown (60/180), finesse, and light properties, and deals 1d4 + your level + your Dexterity modifier slashing damage on a hit.
  • Greatclub: your Hollow Zanpakuto is a simple weapon with the heavy, two-handed, and reach properties that deals 1d8 + your level + your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage on a hit.
  • Greataxe: your Hollow Zanpakuto is a simple weapon with the heavy, two-handed, and reach properties that deals 1d12 + half your level + your Strength modifier slashing damage on a hit.
  • Maw: your Hollow Zanpakuto is a simple melee weapon with the finesse and light properties, and deals 1d4 + your level + your Dexterity modifier slashing damage on a hit. You may make unarmed strikes with a hand wielding your Hollow Zanpakuto, and may deal your unarmed strikes' and your Hollow Zanpakuto's damage on a hit. Additionally, you can not be disarmed of your Zanpakuto.

If you have a Zanpakuto, you may cause any feature that affects it affects your Hollow Zanpakuto as well, though the inverse is not true.

Media Etapa

At 10th level, your Hollow Zanpakuto takes on a life of its own. As a bonus action for 5 Reiryoku, you may absorb its burgeoning power, undergoing its Media Etapa until you revert to your original form as a bonus action, and it does so automatically when your Hollow Zanpakuto dematerializes. All Media Etapa have their own unique special ability, work along side your DM to decide this ability based on your character's personality.

Resurrección

At 20th level, your Hollow Zanpakuto grows to match you in power. As a bonus action for 5 Reiryoku while Media Etapa is active, you may absorb its full power, regaining 12 + your level + your Constitution modifier hit points and undergoing its Resurrección until you revert to your original form as a bonus action, and it does so automatically when your Hollow Zanpakuto dematerializes. While Resurrección is active, you must release your Reiatsu at the beginning of each of your turns. All Resurrección have their own unique special ability, work along side your DM to decide this ability based on your character's personality.

Segunda Etapa

At 30th level, your Hollow Zanpakuto grows beyond you. As a bonus action for 5 Reiryoku, you may absorb this further power, regaining 12 + your level + your Constitution modifier hit points and undergoing its Segunda Etapa until you revert to your original form as a bonus action, and it does so automatically when your Hollow Zanpakuto dematerializes. All Segunda Etapa have their own unique special ability, work along side your DM to decide this ability based on your character's personality.

Beyond Resurrección

At 40th level, you become one with your Hollow Zanpakuto once more. You gain the effects of Segunda Etapa permanently and you do not need to release your Reiatsu at the beginning of each of your turns. As a bonus action for 3 Reiryoku, you may regain 12 + your level + your Constitution modifier hit points. Additionally, when you summon your Hollow Zanpakuto, you may change what form it takes.

Visored[edit]

Visored are non-Hollows that have formed an "inner-Hollow" within their soul. You must take this Hollowfication if you multiclass into this class.

Visor

At 1st level, you can not use this class's features save for its Spiritual Expertise and Ability Score Improvement while your Visor is not summoned. As an action, you may summon your Visor, becoming bloodlusted and gaining a bonus to your attack and damage rolls, AC, saving throws, and saving throw DC equal to half your Constitution modifier. You may make a Charisma saving throw at the end of each of your turns, desummoning your Visor on a success, and your Visor automatically desummons when you fall unconscious.

Controlled Visor

At 10th level, you may spend 2 Reiryoku at the beginning of each of your turns that your Visor is active to not be bloodlusted until the beginning of your next turn, and you can end your Visor as a bonus action while you are not Bloodlusted. While you are Berserk from being Bloodlusted, your Visor's bonus is doubled.

Merged Form

At 20th level, rather than simply donning its mask, you are able to fully merge with your inner Hollow. When you gain a Hollow Ability, you may instead gain a feature from another Hollowfication you do not have as if by multisubclassing. Like any other feature from this class, these can only be used while your Visor is active.

Demi-Hollow

At 30th level, while your Visor is active, your Reiatsu radius is doubled and you gain one feature from Pure Hollow and Arrancar in the same manner as from Merged Form.

Beyond Visored

At 40th level, your inner Hollow is permanently merged with your soul, having achieved perfect balance. While your Reiryoku is no lower than your proficiency bonus from your maximum, Visor's bonus is doubled, and you may use any Hollow Ability you do not have for twice as much Reiryoku.

Hollow Abilities[edit]

Puerta del Cielo

As an action for 5 Reiryoku, you may rip through the barriers separating dimensions with your bare hands. If you maintain concentration, you teleport to one location you have previously been to at the beginning of your next turn. When you take the Attack action, each of your afterimages can make a single attack, and when they take damage you take half as much damage instead. If both you and at least one of your afterimages takes damage from the same source, only you do. Cero Sincrético

Requires Cero. As a reaction for 5 Reiryoku when a creature within your Reiatsu radius causes a creature to make a Dexterity saving throw, you may add your Cero to their attack. On a failure, the target also takes your Cero damage. On a success, they take half as much damage.

Rey Cero

Requires Cero. When you use Cero, you may increase the damage it deals by your proficiency bonus for every additional Reiryoku spent.

Gran Rey Cero

Bala

Requires Cero. When you take the Attack action, you may spend 1 additional Reiryoku to replace one attack with a Cero.

If the target takes damage from this attack, they must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, they lose Reiryoku equal to your proficiency bonus. On a success, they lose half as much.

Bulb Scatter

As an action for 3 Reiryoku, you may make a Hollow attack against one creature within your Reiatsu radius as you fire part of your body at them. On a hit, you can control part of their body, causing your reach to extend to their reach for 1 minute. On a critical hit, they are charmed by you as well. The target may make a Dexterity saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending this effect early on a success.

El Martillo

As a bonus action for 1 Reiryoku, you may massively increase the size of parts of your body. Until the end of your next turn, you gain a penalty to your melee attack rolls equal to your proficiency bonus and a bonus to your melee damage rolls equal to twice your proficiency bonus.

Negación

Requires Puerta del Cielo. When you use Puerta del Cielo, you may spend 5 additional Reiryoku to shroud a line with a length in feet equal to 5 times your proficiency bonus in sickly light. Additionally, any ongoing effects that are not part of a feature of the target it is affecting in the area immediately end.

Your maximum hit points decrease by 12 for every size category below the soul's the body is and increases by 12 for every size category above.

Soul Separation

On a hit with an unarmed strike for 3 Reiryoku against a humanoid, you may force the target out of their body. The target becomes a soul it they were not already. The target's body falls unconscious, and if the body the target was in was their own (i.e. not a Gigai) any damage dealt to the body is dealt to the creature instead. This has no effect on creatures that are already souls.

Soul Transfer

Requires Soul Separation. As an action for 3 Reiryoku, you may implant a willing soul into a humanoid or beast body within your reach. While inside this body, the creature gains the creature's movement speed and features. The creature's maximum hit points decrease by 12 for every size category below the soul's the body is and increases by 12 for every size category above.

Spouting

As an action, you may create a beast that is a soul, spending a number of Reiryoku equal to its CR. These beasts act on your turn.

On a failure, they take 1d8 + your level + your Constitution modifier bludgeoning damage. On a success, they take half as much damage.

Sticker Phlegm

As an action for 3 Reiryoku, you spit a glob thick saliva, causing two objects or one object and one creature that are touching each other within 5 times your Dexterity modifier feet to be stuck together for 1 minute with concentration. A creature may make a Athletics check against your Hollow save DC as an action, ending this effect early on a success.

Spirit Weapon Destruction

As a reaction for 5 Reiryoku when a creature hits you with a spirit weapon (i.e. Zanpakuto, Bogensperling, Hollow Zanpakuto), you disrupt the attacker's Reiatsu, causing the weapon to desummon and be unable to be summoned for 1 hour.

You lose 1 level of exhaustion from this feature each time you lose temporary hit points equal to your Constitution modifier.
