Sometimes referred to as "giant bees," these hornets are significantly bigger than most insects—any one of them is larger than a hylian's hand. Like more typical bees, they gather in hives that are most often found in hives which are built in trees or bushes. Unlike most insects, deku hornets are known to actively hunt in groups and sting with the intent to kill. They can make prey out of creatures many times their size, even humanoids. Approaching a deku hornet hive can be a death sentence for someone unable to deal with the consequences.
