This content intends to provide a different experience, or goes beyond the scope of the anticipated subjects and situations, than the 5e rules were intended to handle. This creature was created as part of the Player Equivalent CR variant rule using the Naruto: Shinobi (5e Class) class and Genin (5e Background) background, and as such does not follow traditional CR.

Chakra. Dan has 31 chakra points which he can expend. All chakra points are regained at the end of a long rest.

Evasion. When Dan is targeted by an area effect that lets him make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, such as fireball, he instead takes no damage if he succeeds on the saving throw, and only half damage if he fails the save.

Ninja Speed. Dan can take the dash, dodge, and disengage actions as a bonus action, and can move along vertical surfaces.


Multiattack. Dan can make 3 unarmed strike, Flying Swallow, or kunai attacks.

Unarmed Strike. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (3d4 + 2) bludgeoning damage.

Kunai. Thrown Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, range 30/60 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) piercing damage. Dan may spend up to 3 chakra when he takes this action, making one additional attack per chakra point spent. Each additional kunai deals 3 (1d4 + 1) piercing damage on a hit.

Transformation (1+ Chakra).Dan becomes identical to a person, creature or non-magical object he a complete visual image of. This can not be a light source, armor, tool, or vehicle and, and he can not recreate a magical effect. Creatures must make an DC 16 Investigation check realize that he is transformed. If the creature saw him performing the Jutsu, they automatically succeed. This does not change statistics, save for granting the creature's swimming and flying speeds.

Body Flicker (3 Chakra). Dan's movement speed doubles, and his movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

Basic Ninjutsu Technique (1 Chakra). As a bonus action, Dan can move across liquid surfaces as if they were solid. If he is submerged, he rises to the surface of the liquid at a rate of 60 feet per round.

Spiritualization Jutsu (20 Chakra). Dan detaches his soul from his body. The material body he leaves behind is unconscious, but continues to age, require food and water, and reduces his hit points if it takes damage.

Dan's soul resembles his mortal form in every way, replicating his game statistics and possessions, and gaining a flying speed equal to his movement speed. It can not take damage, and can only be targeted by fuinjutsu or jutsu that absorbs chakra, or similar effects. If he drops to 0 chakra while in this form, he dies instantly. He can not interact with physical objects, passing through them instead, excluding chakra constructs or chakra-imbued objects. Dan may end this effect as an action, returning his soul to his body instantly over any distance, if neither his soul or body are obstructed by chakra constructs or chakra-imbued objects. He may spend 1 minute in this form without consequence, after which he gains 1 level of exhaustion at the end of each of his turns (once every 6 seconds) as his body begins to slowly rot.

As an action while his soul is within a non-construct creature's space, he may force them to attempt a DC 16 Charisma saving throw. On a failure, they take 7 (2d4 + 3) necrotic damage and 4 (2d4) psychic damage. On a success, Dan takes half as much damage.


Substitution (3+ Chakra). When Dan is hit by an attack and would take damage, he decreases the damage by 19 (1d10 + 14) and teleports up to 15 ft. in any direction to an unoccupied space, during which he takes the Hide action. A generic object is left in his place and he takes any remaining damage from that attack. Dan can add reduce this damage by an additional 6 (1d10) points per chakra point spent over the initial cost.


A skilled Jonin of the the Hidden Leaf Village, Dan began pushing for the legal requirement that all shinobi teams include a medical nin after the death of his younger sister, who's daughter Shizune he adopted. As he and Tsunade Senju bonded, both in and out of the council chambers, they began a romance, with him promising her that he would become Hokage and fix the system.

In the Second Shinobi World War, Dan killed countless shinobi in battle. However, one such battle left him so wounded that no amount of healing Tsunade could give him could heal him, ultimately bleeding out on her operating table.
