You prepare your weapon to attack and get into a countering stance, a field is set in any shape you want around you.
The size of the field is determined by your reach you currently have with that weapon and other factors that give you reach without you having to move. Moving or being moved causes the field to deactivate.
If any creature enters the field unknowingly or by force, you may use your reaction to make an opportunity attack on the target with the melee weapon you are holding. you may do this equal to the number of opportunity attacks or reactions you have unless their AC is higher than your level, than you just have advantage. You may still roll to see if you critically damage the target or not.
