Way of The Gaoh[edit]

Monk Subclass

The Gaoh Style is regarded as a style of combat passed down by cowards, as it's essence lies in "surprise attacks", however it is not effective against those who know of this style, or in long term battle.

Gaoh Stance

3rd level

At 3rd level, at the beginning of combat, regardless of if it is your turn or not, you can spend 3 Ki points to go into the "Gaoh Stance". When you go into the Gaoh Stance, you gain the following benefits:

-You gain a bonus to AC equal to your proficiency bonus.

-You gain the benefits of the Dodge action.

-When you would use a "Gaoh Technique", it costs half of the Ki points it takes to use it, unless stated otherwise.

Gaoh Stance ends after 1 minute, if you are stunned, or if you are knocked unconscious.

Gaoh Technique

3rd level

Also at 3rd level, you can choose three "Gaoh Techniques" from the list below, two more at 6th level, three more at 11th level, and four more at 17th level. The "Gaoh Techniques" you can choose from is as follows:

"Air Rending"- When you would make an attack, you can make that attack "Air Rending" for 4 Ki points. When you attack with Air Rending, that attack is made at advantage. If it hits, it is considered at critical hit. If it misses, all other attacks made with Air Rending are made at disadvantage, unless you were to use Earth Crouching Dragon beforehand, or until combat ends. When you land Air Rending, the creature hit needs to make a STR save (DC=Ki save + DEX mod). On a fail, they are knocked prone and incapacitated until the start of their next turn. You can only use Air Rending once per round.

"Armorclad"- (Not affected by Gaoh Stance) When you are hit with an attack, you can spend 3 Ki points to treat the damage like you are resistant to it, as long as it deals bludgeoning, slashing, or piercing, along with gaining a +3 to AC, all until the start of your next turn. While Armorclad is active, you cannot make any attack with any Gaoh Techniques, except Pierce, until Armorclad ends. You can only make one attack while Armorclad is active.

"Earth Crouching Dragon"- When you make an attack, you can make that attack an "Earth Crouching Dragon" for 4 Ki points. When you attack with Earth Crouching Dragon, that attack is made at advantage. If it hits, it is considered at critical hit. If it misses, all other attacks made with Earth Cruoching Dragon are made at disadvantage, unless you were to use Air Rending beforehand, or until combat ends. When you land Earth Crouching Dragon, that creature needs to make a STR save (DC=KI save + DEX mod). On a fail, they are pushed back 15ft and are incapacitated until the start of their next turn. You can only use Earth Crouching Dragon once per round.

"Fanged Beast"- If you were to move at least 20ft before making an attack, you can make that attack a Fanged Beast for 2 Ki points. When using Fanged Beast, you make 2 attack rolls, each attack roll having advantage and dealing slashing damage. If you were to miss or use Fanged Beast consecutively, those rolls are instead made at disadvantage, until you use a different Gaoh Technique.

"Mental Control"- (Not affected by Gaoh Stance) If you are stunned and a melee attack hits you, for 6 Ki points, as a reaction, you can reduced the damage by 3 times your DEX mod and make an unarmed strike at advantage, even if you would be knocked unconscious.

"Pierce"- When you make an attack while Armorclad is active, you can spend 4 Ki points to make that attack deal piercing. If that attack lands, it is considered a critical hit.

"Retrograde Moon"- (Not affected by Gaoh Stance) If you were to be hit by a melee weapon attack, you can spend 4 Ki points to make that attack hit the attacker instead.

"Root Cutter"- When you make an unarmed strike, you can make that attack a Root Cutter for 6 Ki points. When attacking with Root Cutter, if you land that attack , it is considered a critical hit, and the targeted creature needs to make a CON save (DC=Ki save + DEX mod). On a fail, they are paralyzed until the start of their next turn.

"Shrike"- When a creature misses you with an attack, as a reaction, you can spend 6 Ki points to make a melee attack with Shrike. When you attack with Shrike, the attack is a critical on a 18-20 and it deals three of your Martial Arts die in damage. You can only use Shrike once per round.

"Soft Strike"- When you make an unarmed strike, for 4 ki points, you can make that attack ignore resistance to bludgeoning, slashing, or piercing damage. If you do this, you cannot make anymore attacks until the start of your next turn.

"Swift Foot"- (Not affected by Gaoh Stance) When a melee attack would hit you, as a reaction, you can spend 3 Ki points give yourself a bonus to AC equal to half of your DEX mod rounded up, and if the attack were to miss as a result of Swift Foot, you gain the effects of Disengage and you can move up to 10ft, or you can spend 3 Ki points to make an unarmed strike against the attacker.

"Twin Charging Dragon"- If you were to move at least 20ft before making an attack, you can make that attack a Twin Charging Dragon for 2 Ki points. When using Twin Charging Dragon, you make 2 attack rolls, each attack roll having advantage and dealing bludgeoning damage. If you were to miss or use Twin Charging Dragon consecutively, those rolls are instead made at disadvantage, until you use a different Gaoh Technique. If both attacks land, the target must make a STR save (DC=Ki save + DEX mod). If they fail, they are knocked prone. You can only use Twin Charging Dragon once per turn.

"Uncoiling Serpent Fist"- If you were to move at least 20ft before making an attack, you can make that attack an Uncoiling Serpent Fist for 2 Ki points. When using Uncoiling Serpent Serpent Fist, that attack is made at advantage and deals two of your Martial Arts die in damage. If it misses, the targeted creature can make an attack against you.

"Weeping Willow"- When you are hit by an attack, as a reaction, you can spend 2 ki points to force the target to make a DEX save (DC=Ki save + DEX mod) . On a fail, the target is knocked prone and the attack misses.

Essence of Cowards

6th level

At 6th level, if you have not taken damage in the first round of combat, the next attack you make will deal an additional amount of damage equal to two of your Martial Art die. However, if you have taken damage in the first round of combat, attacks made against you have advantage for the next round.

Element of Surprise

11th level

If you were to attack a creature you haven't attacked yet or were to attack from stealth, that attack will be made at advantage regardless. If that attack misses, every attack made against you by creatures who witnessed you make that attack will be made advantage until the end of the third turn turn after that attack. If that attack lands, all attacks this turn against the targeted creature will deal an extra Martial Arts die of damage.

Prostrating King

17th level

At 17th level, your Gaoh Stance gains the following benefits:

-You gain 2 extra reactions.

-You gain the effects of the Disengage action.

-The first attack you make in combat will deal 2 extra Martial Arts die worth of damage.

-You gain Ki points equal to your prof. bonus +3 and your Ki points maximum increases by your prof. bonus.
