Welcome!

Hello TheBrsrkr, and welcome to D&D Wiki! I hope you are enjoying D&D Wiki and have been finding the information here useful. Before you start contributing, we recommend you make sure your user preferences match your preferences.

Questions

If you have any questions about a specific page please ask it on that page's talk page. If you have a D&D-related question, you can ask it on DnD Discussions. Everything relating to D&D Wiki's administration can be asked here. If you need to contact another user, please use their talk page.

Formatting

Syntax can be very difficult, and if you need help a good place to start is Help:Editing on Wikipedia (or even their Introduction page). This will explain basic wiki formatting and should provide quite a few useful links that explain more specific areas of wiki formatting. Help:Portal also provides detailed explanation of information important specifically to this community.

Community

A strong and welcoming community exists on D&D Wiki, and I'm sure you will find us friendly. To enable the community to function, a number of policies are in effect. Most importantly, we follow and expect you to follow Wikipedia's guidelines on civility and etiquette when discussing anything. As most work has multiple authors, please do not delete content without following our removal process. When posting a comment on a talk page, please ensure you sign your name with four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the signature icon (Signature icon.png). This will automatically produce your name and the date. I hope you come to enjoy D&D Wiki and the community. Welcome again, you are now a D&D Wikian. --SirSprinkles (talk) 15:38, 28 October 2020 (MDT)

Hello, new user![edit]

It's come to my attention that you've been making some new pages on this wiki. This is great, as every user has new and exciting ideas for potential races, classes, weapons, or even mundane bits of adventuring gear. However, you do seem to be mistaken about one thing, and that is the category in which the new items are being made. You see, the magic items on the wiki are all helpfully listed over on 5e Magical Weapons, to differentiate them from simply a new variation of spear or polearm. You, however, seem to be creating pages in the regular old mundane Weapons section.
Don't worry, you're not in trouble and it's a very easy fix - we just need to update the page with the correct identifiers and it'll all be peachy. This is just a handy little tip to help make it easier to put the right item in the right place. I've already fixed the identifiers on that excellent battleaxe you made, so now we just need to take care of the staff - and, of course, help you learn what you're doing a bit better, which is the main reason I've messaged you like this. Basically, please make sure to put items in the correct spots on the wiki, as it makes it easier to find things when they're all properly labeled. Thanks, and have an excellent day! --Nuke The Earth (talk) 13:14, 1 November 2020 (MST)

Hello Nuke the Earth,

I apologize for leaving a message for you like this but I'm new to the site and I haven't quite figured out the talk function yet. Thanks for moving the weapons to their correct sections and the edits I see on them, I was having a bit of trouble trying to balance them. I did notice, however, that the picture somehow has a claim against it? It isn't my original work, But I took it from an open source site that said all art was free to use. Are there additional steps I have to take in this case?

How do I use the talk function? When I click your in this comment it leads me to your user page, and when I click talk it leads me to pages you created. How do I send a message like this one to you?

Hey, TheBrsrkr. It's perfectly fine to just carry on this conversation here, as this page was added to my Watchlist when I edited it to add this message (which essentially means I'm alerted to every change made to this page). To answer your question though, wiki users usually have three pages dedicated to them: Their user page, which can be navigated to by clicking their username if it's blue instead of red (signifying that it's an active link, instead of a link to a page not yet created), that user's Talk or Discussion page (what we're using to talk now - this is your Talk page), and their Contributions page, where every edit they've made or page they've created is recorded automatically.
All wiki users are automatically notified when their Talk Page is edited, because it just makes a lot of things easier. My User page is linked here and looks like this: User:Nuke The Earth, my Talk page is linked here and looks like this: User talk:Nuke The Earth, and my Contributions page I believe you've already seen. Most of your user-specific pages can be accessed through the bar in the top right of any wiki page, where it says "Username Talk Preferences Watchlist Contributions Log Out". All of that is fairly self-explanatory, except perhaps Preferences, which is basically your account options for the wiki.
Aside from all that, I'd advise reading up on the Help pages, there's one for just about every problem you could encounter on the wiki. I must confess I'm not entirely confident in my knowledge of images or copyright material, so I can only advise you to look through the relevant help pages, and perhaps get in touch with a wiki administrator. The easiest way to do that would be to join the wiki's Discord server, which you can find a link to in the Community section of the sidebar to the left of all wiki pages.
I hope this is helpful to you, and once again, I'm glad to see a new and enthusiastic wiki editor. Take care! --Nuke The Earth (talk) 19:42, 2 November 2020 (MST)
