Re: Editing Statblocks[edit]
My descriptions are incomplete. I meant to get around to doing them, but I guess I should polish them up more. As for balance, you mentioned balance issues. Do you find that they are too strong or weak? Does it vary by the case? Would changing the CR fix the issue, or is it more that some parts are too strong compared to other parts?
- Maybe "balance" was the wrong term, my apologies. What I meant was that some things (Gibdo and Gyorg, for example) seem way more powerful than their game counterparts, or at least their most recognizable forms. IlliterateAuthor (talk) 09:39, 31 July 2022 (MDT)
- I take no offense from this message or your previous message. The Gibdo is as strong as it is based on some of its older appearances such as NES Zelda where Gibdos are about as strong as darknuts, combined with some of the creepy grab/gaze powers of Oot/MM. Altogether, it resembles the 5e Mummy rather well, and I think it is important to have higher CR "common" enemies so that you can fill dungeons at higher levels without spamming bosses. I think that the strength of Gibdos allows them to frighten players and reward players for exploiting its fire vulnerability.
- The Gyorg I can't justify as well, though I do have the similar belief that the Mid CRs are a little sparse on enemies, and it is a long way from Big Octo/Golden Octo at CR 6 to Colossal Octo at 14. I also thought that adding the Gyorg at the CR it is at would have also been an easy way to also add the Malgyorg at this CR for Sand-Themed encounters as well. I have also now since this message nerfed Gyorg with damage vulnerabilities to thunder and piercing, bringing its power down a bit, however, I have also buffed Gyorg with siege monster in order to make it more dangerous to boats. Ultimately, I imagine the Sea Gyorg being something that can now be overcome by crafty adventurers as a boss, challenge mid-levels in groups, and still be a pain to even high levels with siege monster. If you think that a lower CR version of the Gyorg should be made, I would personally want it to have siege monster going forward. There is also the ramification of making a CR 5 or lower monstrosity becoming a shifter option. It could be good or bad for the game, but certainly something that the CR 9 version does not think about.
- TL;DR, some things are as strong as they are due to things being a composite or just to fill the mid-level CRs.
- Ah, I see. I forgot that the Gibdos were that powerful in the older games, but I like the addition of higher CR monsters for Higher level characters without adding bosses in every encounter. I suppose that a weaker/lower CR variant of a gibdo (like how they are in OoT and Majora) could just be a reskin of the redead, as they basically function the same as them in those games.
- The nerfing of the gyorg also makes sense, as in wind waker they can be easily killed with bombs, so the thunder damage vulnerability is a nice damage. A weaker version could probably be added as a "younger" variant, but that might be a bit shoehorned in, as well as not being in any of the games. IlliterateAuthor (talk) 10:26, 1 August 2022 (MDT)
- There might need to be something like Gyorg and Tough Gyorg, my version might be the "tough" version and the normal one could be scaled back. Maybe Malgyorg should get its own page so that you can more explicitly tell people there is a tough Malgyorg, but eh, that might not be as popular a decision. Are there any other Statblocks you wish to discuss?
- I could see there being a normal and tough version as different statblocks, but I think that they could both have a variant of Malgyorg so that there would be one for each type. But that should be it, nothing else I really feel the need to discuss except for statblocks that need to be expanded, but that's easy and doesn't need a discussion. Hope you don't mind I do some work on some of them like the Wizzrobes, ball and chain soldier, and what not. IlliterateAuthor (talk) 11:40, 1 August 2022 (MDT)
- You may do as you please with BnCS, my idea for it would be that it can be a formidable early boss like in LTTP, but drops off into something with just a bit of crowd control. My Wizzrobes are based on the Wind Waker versions with Red being a blaster of fire, Yellow a summoner, and Orange doing both. Ice/Electric Wizzrobes from BotW are probably in order. I am curious to see what changes you might make, though I would prefer that Yellow Wizzrobe be the same CR as a Red/Fire Wizzrobe.
- So I have done a small amount of editing for the Red Wizzrobe, liking lowering its HP a little bit and changing the staff to the fire rod like in BoTW, but it basically functioned the exact same, and could easily still apply for the wind waker version. I was wondering if we could lower its HP a bit more, and maybe give it another ability to keep it at the same CR? It just seemed strange for it to have so much hit points to me. IlliterateAuthor (talk) 12:34, 4 August 2022 (MDT)
- Edit: Nvm, it has the vulnerability, so I understand now. IlliterateAuthor (talk) 12:36, 4 August 2022 (MDT)
- The change from fire staff to rod is pretty negligible and is more accurate to both WW and BotW games. The staff was in-place so that it used both Wizzrobe's hands, but the added line in Conjured Rod that makes it so that only one can be summoned works perfectly. The added stealth prof. synergizes well with the Invisible Variant, though I would personally change a few things about the Invisible variant. When a creature is invisible in 5e, you actually still know its location without there being sparkles. You still need to take the hide action to make it so that creatures do not know where you are. (Though with Invisibility, you can take the hide action anywhere.) The rules for spotting a Wizzrobe under the invisbility variant imply that the Wizzrobe is also automatically hidden. I think I will go and make an edit or two and hopefully it will be agreeable to you.
- Sounds good to me man. I'll make some more wizzrobe and changes to existing statblocks. IlliterateAuthor (talk) 20:53, 6 August 2022 (MDT)
- Added something to the Meteor Wizzrobe, Regional Effects. I recently learned that Wizzrobes can play with the weather in BOTW.
