Weapon (special), legendary (requires attunement)

This item appears to be the hilt of a sword. While you are attuned to the item and grasping the hilt, you can use a bonus action to make a blade of pure magical force appear, or make the blade disappear. The blade takes on different forms and properties based on your current number of hit points, as detailed below. You are proficient with the weapon regardless of its current form.

  • If you have more than three-quarters of your total hit points remaining, the blade functions as a greatsword. You have a +4 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon. In addition, the blade sheds bright light in a 40-foot radius and dim light for an additional 40 feet.
  • If you have less than three-quarters but more than half of your total hit points, the blade functions as a longsword or rapier (your choice). You have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon. In addition, the blade sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet.
  • If you have less than half but more than one-quarter of your total hit points remaining, the blade functions as a shortsword or scimitar (your choice). You have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon. In addition, the blade sheds bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet.
  • If you have less than one-quarter of your total hit points, the blade functions as a dagger. You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon. In addition, the blade sheds bright light in a 5-foot radius and dim light for an additional 5 feet.

In all its forms, the weapon deals force damage instead of its normal damage type. In addition, if you score a critical hit against a target, you inflict extra force damage equal to your proficiency bonus plus your total hit dice. This extra damage cannot be reduced in any way.

An attack with this weapon destroys protective magical barriers, such as a wall of force or a single layer of a prismatic wall.
