Taste of Souls (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Weapon (whip), Very Rare (Requires Attunement)
A Whip with clear death symbolism
Special Attunement: To become attuned with the Taste of Souls you must get the killing blow on 7 humanoid creatures with it first.
Death's Affinity: The whip is corrupted by dark magics. On a successful hit, this whip deals an additional 1d4 damage, and all of its damage counts as necrotic damage.
Devour Souls: While attuned, every killing blow the Taste of Souls achieves on a Humanoid creature, it absorbs their soul and the tether visibly grows, increasing its reach by 5ft.
Tormented: You can also hear thoughts, feelings and wants of every soul trapped within the Whip as they whisper and rattle in your mind. After a long rest you must make a DC 15 Intelligence Saving throw or take 1d6 Psychic damage for every 5 souls the whip has ever consumed while Attuned. Losing attunment with the Taste of Souls continues this effect for 3d6 days.
Overloaded Glutton: After gathering 15 souls in the Taste of Souls it begins to glow a deep crimson and can store no more souls. You can unleash all the stored souls as an action, all creatures within a 20ft cone must make a DC 15 Intelligence Saving throw, taking 3d8 Psychic Damage and 3d8 Necrotic Damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one.
