Talk:Tentacle Summoner (5e Class)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Hey all !

I am torn between laughing my a** off and ... nope, nothing, I'm just laughing !

Anyway, this is as said an Aprils Fool class, or meant as one anyway.

I'd appreciate it if someone could pin the Aprils Fool logo, I know where to get it but don't know if I have the authority for that.

         Instant Edit : Thanks !!!

Take a look, tell me what to improve for more fun and I'll check once in a while to work on it.

Feel free to make minor adjustments yourselves if you feel inspired and have more experience with the game balance than I do.

I worry this class is a bit too fragile but then again, you're not supposed to fight on the frontlines...

I know Dyuu is OP but it comes only at level 14 sooo... maybe still ok ? :)

Thanks for the support & feedback people ! --84.90.251.9 15:18, 3 December 2017 (MST)

Tentacle move speed?[edit]

I was thinking small would have 10-15, medium would have 20-25, and large would be 30-35. They could also be carried using you lift/push/drag weight if you have the strength required to do that. Small could weigh 50 pounds, medium 100, and large 200.

Reply[edit]

Yep, good idea ! Thanks ! --84.90.251.9 15:18, 3 December 2017 (MST)

Comment[edit]

Inside the spell list, They are some error of writing. Some spell are not complet and is difficult to find it and to make a note to remmember the real spelle name. if you could just aranged that is will be good. otherwise this class is cool! Balanced (talk) 22:55, 21 mars 2018 (MST)

never really mentions the base stat of a tentacle, only the rainbow, which has 16 in all stats Balanced (talk) 21:22, 17 December 2017 (MST)

Answer to above[edit]

By base stat do you mean something else than ability scores ? In the "Tentacle Types" paragraph it says : "Unless specified otherwise, all tentacles summoned have STR 10, DEX 14, CON 10, INT 10, WIS 10, CHA 10, and have an AC determined by their Size as explained above." Is that what yo were referring to ? --Holic (talk) 09:31, 29 December 2017 (MST)

Perfect Villain Class ?[edit]

I know this is a joke class but I actually think it's pretty great, I'v even made a villain in my campaign with this class. Though my players joined her side to help her spread the love of the tentacles to the world. Moth (talk) 03/07/18

Hell Yeah[edit]

Thanks :D

Awesome that you made a villain using this ! I think it was a good idea, too bad your players were... well, them. But I imagine the campaign ended up becoming fun and interesting in a different sense.

Haha. Oh wow, how hilarious that must have been !!! The turnaround conversion just by the villain's character concept !! Wow.

Anyway, I love if you gave me some more feedback on how the class played, even as a villain NPC, it's still pretty valuable info to me :) .

Thanks again for using it and glad you had fun with it.

Communication[edit]

So, the mimic tentacles can take any shape they want. If they take the form of a, say, a human, are they able to speak?

Re: Communication[edit]

Hey there ! :) Thanks for the question.

Well, ultimately I'd say if the DM allows it, sure, why not !

But in my mindset for now, these things are from a far-out plane and don't necessarily have language skills or knowledge. I'd play it like this : you could enchant the tentacle so it can speak, or, if you're actually summoning the same tentacle, you could teach it to speak in a more or less convincing way, depending on how well you teach it (wisdom check) and how well it takes to learning (it makes an intelligence check). And you could roll that for each month of adventuring with it so it gets better and better until it's fluent and voilà : your mimic tentacle can now go to royal balls and high society parties ! xD

Reorganizing[edit]

Well, I remembered this existed thats to someone fixing a typo! So I looked back and wanted to help with the readability. All the changes I made are strictly with the structure of the article for readablity and to fit the wording of 5e for rules purposes. I tried to make sure I made no changes to how it actually works mechanically. Althoug there is a column for how many creatures you can have summoned, and that doesn't line up with what it says in the text. Which is the actual limit? If its the one in the text, I think the one in the table would be good for a "how many TSP you can spend on one summon" column.

Re : Reorganizing[edit]

Thanks a lot for the reorganizing ! :) Found the little piece of text mentioning a wrong limit, corrected to fit the table. Also added a line referring to the table in early class ability description.

Also added the 'they become feral when you die' thing.

Thanks again for the text clean-up !

Minor Modif[edit]

Lowered the max summon limit.

Since TSP are restored on long rest, noticed it was too easy too quickly to gain a massively overboosted army of tentacles (which is the point, but now with a better curve).

Also did a bunch of minor adjustments & updates for balance.

Minor Modif 2[edit]

Came back to this here project and adjusted the wording a bit on some stuff.

Also adjusted the Red tentacle for better progression balance (extra attack at level 1 was a problem I realized ^^' )
