Formatting

Syntax can be very difficult, and if you need help a good place to start is Help:Editing on Wikipedia (or even their Introduction page). This will explain basic wiki formatting and should provide quite a few useful links that explain more specific areas of wiki formatting. Help:Portal also provides detailed explanation of information important specifically to this community.

Empath/Heart Mage Class Discussion

Hey Holic, I just wanted to ask you about the empath class you have created and give you some play-testing data I got from playing it in a Curse of Strahd campaign. First off, have you abandoned it? I don't see why you would have, but it would be good to know. Second off are some stuff that arose from play testing.

1. The lack of anything like a cantrip at low levels can really hurt, though with simple weapons proficiency and the d8 health it can make up for it, however this starts becoming a problem at level 5 where Fighter's start getting extra attack and you do not have all that many spell slots. It also becomes a problem when you are facing a horde of lower level enemies and you have to use up your spell slots which you can only regain after a long rest, something that isn't really an option in a dungeon.
2. Sometimes it can break the game, but in a fun way. I managed to get Heart Grasp on Strahd in the final battle, so while my party got wiped I just kind of sat there and hung out, lol. The DM managed to make that move a really climactic scene and it kind of gave my character PTSD as she comprehended all of Strahd's millenia of pain in a single instant.

• While I'm here and on this subject there is one request for a really simple edit to the class I have. Could you please add in a starting wealth option. I used the Sorcerer's as a base, but I feel like this class really shouldn't start out with all that much.

Hmmm, I see, I made this class a bit early on and it's no surprise that it's not well balanced.

I've added Cantrips at the begining.

Re-specified some things.

Novel about a tentacle summoner?

First off, the Tentacle Summoner has to be one of the best homebrew classes. The abilities are awesome, the different types of tentacles are really interesting, and nothing feels like it was thrown in as a "haha yes this class is a joke." It all fits together nicely and it's honestly just really cool. The whip proficiency for the Abuser archetype was also pure gold. You did a fantastic job there.

So, when I threw together a Tentacle Summoner, she ended up being my favorite character so far, and I kind of want to use her as the protagonist in a short novel for NaNoWriMo, that thing where you write 50,000 words in a month. The idea I have for a story so far heavily depends on the "extra-dimensional Tentacle Entity" and other things like it, however, so I couldn't write it without completely ripping off your idea or asking permission. I'm not a professional author, it wouldn't be published, and I'm just writing for fun/experience, but I would feel bad if I stole your idea that you obviously put a lot of effort into making. So would you be opposed to some random guy using your class (or something very similar to it) in a book?

I did try to make the class balanced but it still needs more play-testing, so I'd be in your debt if you could give me some feedback on the strengths and weaknesses, and on any improvements you would recommend.

A novel ? Sure, go ahead and use it as much as you like !

I made this class so that I and other people could have fun reading it, using it in games, and why not write a story about it too !

I'm glad it's inspired you and I look forward to reading your novel. :)

I've only played as a Tentacle Summoner once while visiting some friends, but I'll be using the class more once I finish gathering a D&D group where I live. If I notice anything weird or that could use improvement, I'll let you know!

I usually keep all my writing on Google Drive and don't put it anywhere, but I just made a subreddit where I can post chapters when they're done.

You might want to check the sections time stamp at the begining of each, I think there's a time contradiction somewhere.

Tentacle Summoner

Hey! I saw the class and it immediately caught my eye and I wanted to ask if you'd be willing to let me make my own version of it?

I've already spent quite a few hours brainstorming, editing, and reworking things on it in a separate document!

I also intend on playtesting this class a few times a week through these edits.
