Talk:Puppeteer (5e Class)

Definitely a bunch a balance issues. I cleaned up a lot of the page, but got tired of it by archetypes XD Spell List says they gain spells based on their archetypes, but that's nowhere in the archetypes section. Puppet Variant should probably do less damage. Other things need more clarification (in addition to balancing).

Whoever came up with this, fucking kudos to you. I made this account just to say this and help on this page because this is one of the funnest and most interesting classes I've ever seen. It's a shame it hasn't been fleshed out and balanced, but that's part of why I made this account. I'm hoping after a couple edits this might be something to use in regular games, whether as a player or a villain.

Editing[edit]

I'm taking the time to edit this class so it can be used in campaigns without being broken and unfinished. I'm using some things like the Necromancer and Arcane Puppeteer as ideas for how the class should be worked out. The when made with bodies, the puppets should have set stats that relate to the wielder. the puppets also should have something like a slam attack that is bludgeoning damage unless the puppet would do something else (ex: a doll made of roses and thus, being thorny would apply piercing damage instead). I'm not too well versed in wiki editing, but I'm getting the hang of it. I'm going to finish the spell slots and make a spell list for the class. This class is absolutely one of my favorites ever. Sure someone could use the arcane puppeteer, but they use plain dolls, this uses bodies which is easier for me because playing an insane character is more my style. If anyone sees this before I'm finished and wants to work together to finish it I would feel happy to contact them and work it out, as of now my discord is nax#6437.

I slightly edited the page so that level 5 grants you Sleight of Hand and Level 9 grants you Expertise in it. Before this edit, these were dead levels. Discord is KingOfFatSalamences#6202. I think the other dead levels should receive some traits, even if they are minor ones.

Quick Comment About Levels[edit]

Right now, this class has dead levels at 7th, 11th, and 18th levels, where it gets absolutely nothing, and 9th and 13th levels would likely count as well, since even though the class gains access to new spell slot levels at those two levels, it doesn't actually gain any new spells known at them. It looks to me like the placement of the dead levels on this class take after a full caster, but as a half caster, the class will need to gain new features (or at least upgraded features) at the listed levels. 9th and 13th can likely be taken care of by moving around the progression of the spells known column to have them learn a new spell at those levels, but 7th, 11th, and 18th levels will absolutely require features or feature upgrades to be added in. Just be careful not to turn 15th level into a dead level; I didn't list that one as a dead level, because as of currently, the class learns a new spell at that level. - Alice-chan (talk) 08:17, 21 April 2019 (MDT)

I think the class can remain half caster. I'm going to try to come up with some new ideas for the dead levels that aren't broken but still useful. (talk) 11/2/19, 12:49 (CST)

permission?[edit]

new person here. I made an account just to ask this/ comment on the class itself. My DM allowed homebrew classes and said I could use this class for my character. I'm hoping it's okay if I test play this, please let me know if it's not. I'd like to speak with someone (hopefully the original creator) on it and how it's going. My discord is RoseRed#8111 (hasn't changed in the last 2 years and wont change. if it does, I'll come update it).

You don't need to ask the creator if you can use any DanDWiki article they created, and it seems that edits for it stopped coming in a month ago, so I'm not sure on if it's "coming along", probably closer to finished. Any information from playtesting could be very useful here, so if you do end up using the class I implore you to post anything relevant, if it comes up. --SwankyPants (talk) 13:44, 19 January 2021 (MST)

I have a few questions based on our "starter puppet". 1. HP. Would we use our con modifier or the puppet's of our choice? 2. Do they act on our initiative or do they get their own bonus? I'm assuming on our initiative as they are technically constructs, but want to make sure.

I have a question about the CR rating for the puppets. It says that changing the CR rating for the puppets will cause their HP, AC and Magic to increase. However, it never says by how much the increase was. So could you tell me what the increase rate is for each CR rating?

Hey I was wondering if the puppets’ stats ever increase or do they stay the same?
