Talk:Martial Artist (5e Feat)

Can't say I quite understand it. If I'm making a Strength check to bend a metal bar, I can use Dexterity instead? What are "attack rolls that require a modifier.", isn't that all attack rolls, including spells?

I assume the intent isn't to have the bonus unarmed strike trigger itself recursively, but even so: If I'm a monk with this feat (let's say I'm level 5), I can get these attacks: Attack action first attack, martial art (feat) attack, attack action second attack, martial arttist (feat) attack, bonus action martial arts (class feature) attack, martial artist (feat) attack, for five attacks. If instead of the martial art (class feature) bonus action attack, I take flurry of blows, it's seven attacks.

And there's the other problem, you've given the feat a name very similar to a class feature, which is confusing. Marasmusine (talk) 11:40, 3 February 2017 (MST)

Both of the bonuses in this feat apply solely to the Monk's abilities, namely Flurry of Blows and the martial arts die. Perhaps "At least two Monk levels" or a similar phrase should be explicitly stated as a prerequisite. --AmplSi (talk) 07:38, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

On the edit war[edit]

So this feat gives three great benefits: An extra attack on Flurry of Blows, +1 to attack and damage, and the dice increase. Each one of these could be packaged with an ASI as their own feat. Someone404 (talk) 17:17, 15 February 2021 (MST)

Class Specific Feats[edit]

5e doesn't really do class specific feats. To be completely frank, i don't believe is a big of a deal a Feat be specific to a certain class, but if it is possible to make it generic and useful for other characters, i believe this should be attempted, and that's why i changed some aspects of the Feat to basically give any character a limited version of the "Martial Arts" feature, while making it somewhat useful for the monk as well. I want to add this note to anyone how keep trying to add "You are proficient with your unarmed strikes" here is something from the PHB pg.195 and quote "Instead of using a weapon to make a melee weapon attack, you can use an unarmed strike: a punch, kick, head-butt, or similar forceful blow (none of which count as weapons). On a hit, an unarmed strike deals bludgeoning damage equal to 1 + your Strength modifier. You are proficient with your unarmed strikes." in short everyone can punch AlexanderJSwain (AlexanderJSwain) 19:18, 13 September 2024 (EST)
