Talking About Subclasses[edit]

Subclasses for this class are fairly strict and are meant to emulate being a type of sage from legend of Zelda, hence the subclasses are designed around such an idea. The recent addition of the blessed by god subclass not only isn't a sage, but is generally poorly worded and balanced in addition to it not following the design of the other subclasses (18th level having an aura, all features of the subclass being based on their element, ect.). As such, I am undoing the recent edit which made the subclass.--Blobby383b (talk) 14:28, 31 October 2019 (MDT)

As the primary contributor to the class, I also felt "blessed by the god" did not fit well. I think the intent was to create a subclass of Princess Zelda as she performs in Super Smash Bros.? Maybe? But that could be accomplished just as well with a Sage of Light that picked up fireball somehow. Smash's version of Din's fire behaves almost exactly like D&D's fireball, after all.
I think there's room for Phantom Slash as a sage spell, though. I imagine that is what the "Animated Armor" feature was referencing. - Guy 20:10, 31 October 2019 (MDT)

Reddit review[edit]

It appears someone gave a review for this specific class on reddit, so I guess I'll just leave this link here: [1].
I incorporated some of the suggestions into the class.- Guy 06:03, 14 November 2019 (MST)

I feel the need to remark on the bit about spell points looking "criminally broken." If one examines page 288 of the Dungeon Master's Guide, one will see the sage actually has fewer spell points than the DMG suggests for a class like this. If this feature is broken, then the DMG itself insists it should be more broken. - Guy 06:09, 14 November 2019 (MST)

Light Sage's Burst of Dawn Nerf?[edit]

Hello, I stress test the Hyrule classes, and it appears that Light Sage's Burst of Dawn might be a little too strong as a class ability. I have a Light Sage with a 18 in WIS and they can deal 6d10 radiant damage on failed CON saves. I think a reasonable nerf would be probably reduce the damage to at least a d6 early, but it scales down the line? User talk:PerfectPhoenix

Discussing Sage of Discord[edit]

While I think there's room for a wild magic option within this Setting, I don't like the current state of the Sage of Discord. This is primarily due to the lack of flavor. In the lore of the Legend of Zelda, only 10 types of sages exist, which are the other eight subclasses, plus Sage of Lightning and Sage of Time.
I think it would be better to either remove Sage of Discord, change it to being a Researcher subclass instead, or re-flavor it into Sage of Time. If it is decided that Sage of Discord will become Sage of Time, some abilities would need large adjustments, but I think others would only need a different description. However, I strongly believe that any of these choices are better than the current state of the Sage of Discord. --Woahluigi (talk) 12:56, 18 October 2024 (MDT)

Recently I changed Sage of Discord to Sage of Time, but I'd really appreciate if someone could modify it to have more connection to Banes and Blessings, like all other sages. --Woahluigi (talk) 11:09, 7 November 2024 (MST)

Sage of Lightning addition and Sage of Spirit rework Suggestion[edit]

I know the Sage of Lightning is the most recent addition of the list of sages as shown as its debut in Tears of The Kingdom, but I believe making the lightning features from Sage of Spirit its own subclass and giving Spirit Sage unique abilities derived from Zelda from Spirit Tracks and Mineru can be very interesting and fitting. The Sage of Lightning could assist others in fighting enemies or constructs that are clad with metallic defenses and could absorb lightning damage into health/magic points at high levels. The Sage of Spirit still has its role in encouraging physical vigor, but can go beyond their physical body and send their spirit out to influence or possess weak willed enemies like a guardian construct without a purpose or tired darknuts, possibly being efficient at enchantment spells and/or commanding npcs. If this idea interests you, please let this discussion continue. Thank you for your time reading this. --LowlyStar (talk) 22:16, 30 December 2024 (UTC)

I agree, Sage of Spirit and Sage of Lightning are distinct roles in the Zelda universe. Sage of Spirit could have abilities that manipulate spirits (inspiration could be taken from Astral Projection), while Sage of Lightning could have abilities based around what we see in BotW and ToTk. Sage of Spirit should lose Unarmored Defense (as it makes more sense for Sage of Lightning to have it), and Sage of Spirit could instead gain an ability similar to a Genie Warlock's Bottled Respite (which would be a sort of reference to the spirit realm seen in many Zelda games).
Although we don't really get to see what the main powers of a Sage of Spirit would be in any of the games, its likely that they have a heavy role in sealing away Gannon and manipulating the souls of creatures (themselves included).
The issue with adding new Sages is that you also have to add in a new spell list for the subclass. I admit that when I transitioned Sage of Discord into Sage of Time, it would have been better to create a spell list unique to Sage of Time. Alas, that's a lot of work, so instead focused on other parts of the Hyrule setting that needed changes, although its likely that I go back and do it correctly at some point. --Woahluigi (talk) 02:28, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
In a recent change, I renamed Sage of Spirit to Sage of Lightning (as all of their abilities were already lightning/desert based). This allows anyone to go in and make Sage of Spirit, if they so desire. --Woahluigi (talk) 04:13, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
