Talk:Half-Cold Half-Hot (5e Class)
From D&D Wiki
Hi, can you explain what the prerequisites are for? A Cleric doesn't have a Wisdom prerequisite, A Monk doesn't have a Dexterity prerequisite. It's obvious that you need those ability scores to be high to be effective at that class. I'm also not sure why there are monster type exceptions. It's assumed that PCs are humanoid. If the DM is allowing homebrew races with different types, they are going to have to vet every combination anyway.
Finally, what kind of campaigns is this for? It says it is a superpower, so is it for modern superpower campaigns? Marasmusine (talk) 13:14, 13 March 2020 (MDT)
Hello there. I'm one of the two main contributors to this page. To answer your question, this class is in a similar format to a handful of other classes that I've been working on. The prerequisites in terms of monster types is mostly just unnecessary I will admit, with the only exception being Constructs due to the warforged. As for the skill requisites, when I first started working on these classes I wasn't entirely sure how I would structure these classes, so I looked to the One for All (5e Class) as a means of guidance on structure. As for the super power part, that's absolutely not part of these classes. I've been treating these as abilities that can be incorporated into a classic 5e campaign or something more modern. Ultimately, I've just been trying to import these abilities into 5e. Cornmage (talk) 19:12, 2 February 2020 (MST)
I think a subclass dedicated to improving both fire and ice would be work pretty well

Likely yes, a subclass for both elements could work. I'll see about writing something up. Cornmage (talk) 17:12, 2 May 2020 (MST)
I have made some of these observations on the Discord, but i'll do it again here:
- Why this class use dex as basis to the DC of his powers? Shouldn't be cha (often used on innate powers)? or wis (meaning dedication and power of will)?
- This class shouldn't have two resources to manage (hot and cold points). Would be better create a unified "quirk points" system instead, is easier for the player to manage and for the designers to balance.
- The character seems to be pretty analytical and strategic in combat. Maybe some feature like the Rogue Mastermind or Battlemaster fighter, who allows you to observe a enemy for sometime, in order to gain information about him, would be on character. Giving some supportive features based on "strategic thinking" would be nice.

Thank you for your observations. I'm not in the Discord server, so I'm unable to hear about any of these things in advance. However, I thank you for this input. When I originally created this class, I was more focused on using the 5e monk for a reference and thinking of the this class as a martial class, rather than similar to that of a sort of strategist sorcerer. I'll adjust the page accordingly. Cornmage (talk) 21:02, 10 June 2020 (MST)
Why a d10 Hit Die?

I'd like to see how this character can handle themselves in a fight with ice devils, flameskulls and remorhazes. Marasmusine (talk) 02:30, 15 December 2021 (MST)
