This might not be inherently obvious, but the odd At Higher Levels scaling is so this cantrip can't outdo the unarmed strikes of a monk. Balance is also why this is exclusive to wizards. Eldritch Knights and odd-build wizards can get a kick out of it, but under otherwise official rules that's all this is intended to strongly benefit. If it was available to Bard/Sorcerer/Warlock or Cleric/Druid, then someone could take the Magic Initiate feat to pick up this spell and cast it from Wisdom or Charisma—which could make it stronger than I intended it to be. - Guy (talk) 12:03, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

If this spell is balanced around intelligence casters, do you think it would be balanced to give it to Artificers? It makes a lot of sense flavor-wise, for alchemists and other artificer subclasses that mess around with dangerous materials to have a spell like this. --Woahluigi (talk) 10:18, 15 September 2024 (MDT)
Yeah, that makes sense to me. - Guy 18:44, 15 September 2024 (MDT)
