The Revolver (5e Equipment) does not contain rules for black powder weapons, such as loading to different strengths for different effects. It works well for modern revolvers that used encased ammunition, but not for the older weapons that are allowed at many other tables, my own included. Also, other items were approved that are far more similar to the Revolver (5e Equipment), such as https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Revolver,_Variant_(5e_Equipment). My item changes much more from the official item than just the damage, weight, range, and addition of the light property that the linked item has. If mine is too similar to keep on the site, then that item should have been deleted long ago, but hasn't. --SpectreSpartan (talk)
- The item itself seems balanced, but mounting all of this to a weapon feels overbearing. Perhaps a variant rule for black powder weapons is more fitting, so it can contain all this info without making the page more than twice the size of a standard weapon page. --SwankyPants (talk) 19:08, 2 November 2021 (MDT)
- Black powder guns are complicated to work with. I'm mainly putting things designed for my table here were all the players can access them easily, but others can use them if they want. If it's too complicated for other people's tables, there are plenty of alternatives. The most fun part of black powder guns is that you can always load them how you'd like, instead of just shooting ammunition loaded by a machine at some factory somewhere. I'm trying to implement that choice--and the consequences of overloading or underloading the weapon--into 5e for others like me to enjoy. --SpectreSpartan (talk) 21:21, 2 November 2021 (EDT)
- Not that it's too complex, although in my opinion, it is a lot of stuff to make players remember. My thought was that it could be seperated, so it can easily be applied to other weapons, besides this one revolver. - I have a couple of problems with that. I don't know how to implement that. Not all black powder weapon uses percussion caps (which I made a page for: https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Percussion_Cap_(5e_Equipment)) or have multiple chambers/shots, so it's hard to standardize. Not only that, but having different calibers and barrel lengths would make creating a comprehensive ruleset difficult. I'm also only adding a few guns, so it's easier for me to copy & slightly change this item's description as needed than to figure out how to implement it for all possible black powder guns. If you know a better way, I'd be glad to have it simplified. --SpectreSpartan (talk) 22:06, 2 November 2021 (EDT)
- Well, you could give each weapon a standard powder count, modifiers for damage based on how much you put in it(say +/-2 based on if you go under or over). No need to consider caliber and barrel length, I'd think. Although the caps may play into it, the weapons that don't do still use external powder sources, yeah?

- The 1851 Colt--and similar models--can replace the cylinder as seen in this photo (assuming I can figure out how to attach it). I think that the specific model shown in my picture is a Colt 1860. It's pretty similar to what's shown in your image, but the barrel comes off entirely rather than rotate down on a hinge.
